Weight Loss - The Ugly Truth About Losing Weight Fast!

Do you want to lose weight fast?

If yes, you need to know that the best way to lose weight is to do your exercises.

It's a well known fact that most of the diet programs don't work. Even if many of them seem to work on the short term, people will regain the extra weight they've burned almost immediately after they stop the diet.

In many case, they will gain more weight after the weight loss program they tried.

Then, they will start again with a new diet (or the same), lose weight again and stop.

I've seen my beloved mother doing this for years. I was wondering why I wasn't allowed to drink those slim fast milkshakes... It seemed really delicious.

Please understand that I am not saying that slim fast doesn't work. What I want you to understand is that most of the time, people are subject to what I call the "after diet" syndrome.

What is this?

After they lose some pounds, they will stop dieting, and find themselves caught in an infernal diet loop.

Are you going to avoid all these delicious foods all your life?

I'm sure you answered no to this question.

So what you need to do?

Just try something different. You are not obliged to take those traditional diet solutions.

As an example, you can try the turbulence training system. This will help you to burn the fat and feed the muscle at the same time.

Instead of focusing on losing weight, you will focus on burning carbs by doing exercises.

Finally! Discover a powerful weight loss system used by thousands of bodybuilders and people around the world to obtain low-low body fat level. Learn how you too can get rid of your stomach fat for good when you visit: http://www.positiveattitude4life.com

Weight Loss - Why Hypnosis Really Does Help

If you are one of the many millions of people who struggle to maintain the proper weight, you are probably aware of the generally accepted ground rules of weight management. The rules say that you need just two things to keep to the correct weight: proper diet and exercise. These two factors are expounded in books and programs worldwide that are the center of a billion-dollar business.

Unfortunately, that business is failing, at least in having an effect, if not in making money for its principals. The proportion of the population who are overweight, and in fact obese, is growing at an alarming rate. And it's not just the United States, by the way. Obesity worldwide is such a concern that the World Health Organization has coined a new word "Globesity" to describe what they see as a global problem.

For many of us, "proper diet and exercise" is not a simple or an easy answer - instead, it represents a total and challenging lifestyle change. Resistance to the required change in personal eating and exercise habits and practices is what dooms many individual attempts to lose weight.

In other words, proper diet and exercise are only half of what is required to maintain a healthy weight - the physical half. It's the other half: the mental and emotional challenges, resistance to change, and difficulty in breaking habits and routines, which keep us overweight.

And, seeing that "proper diet and exercise" is fairly simple in concept, and it's the emotional and habit issues that are the sticking point, it's therefore those latter issues that we should be focusing on. This is where hypnosis can help.

Let me comment, by the way, that all this is the reason why programs like Jenny Craig, Weightwatchers, and even Overeaters Anonymous are so effective. Using meetings and counselors to allow you to interact with others, they address your emotional needs as much as the physical aspects of diet. However, the use of hypnosis can be a lot cheaper, faster, and easier.

For example, most of us have become accustomed (conditioned) to eating particular types and amounts of food on a particular schedule. It's not easy to eat less, or differently. Our tummies are used to feeling full, our brains are conditioned to eat at particular times, and we are used to particular foods, often those which are "not good" for us.

Exercise is also not that easy to insert into one's daily routine. It seems straightforward but humans are strongly resistant to it. Plus, in today's society, who has the time?

This is where hypnotic techniques can help. Hypnotherapy is about habit reconditioning and behavior modification. A course of hypnotherapy can help you modify your existing behaviors and habit patterns, in other words, the mental and emotional challenges, so that you more easily adjust to the new lifestyle required to achieve the two physical cornerstones of weight management - diet and exercise.

But, hypnosis or not, you still have to embrace the diet and exercise part. Hypnosis helps you do this.

Now, here is the good news - a good hypnotherapy program can greatly influence good weight management behavior and make a substantial difference in the adjustments required to a new diet and exercise regime.

First, hypnosis can teach you relaxation. Many of the triggers that cause people to overeat are caused by stress-related factors. The kind of relaxation learned during hypnosis techniques can greatly reduce stress, making the adjustment to new habits much easier.

Next, a good hypnotherapist will work with you to identify triggers. Triggers are things that happen in your environment that consciously or unconsciously "trigger" you to eat at the wrong time. Triggers sabotage good diet and exercise habits.

You may be one of those people who find yourself standing looking inside the fridge for no reason, just looking for something to eat. Your hypnotherapist will help you change those behaviors so that you only snack at fixed times, and then you only eat something good for you, such as a protein snack to prevent hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar.

We describe certain foods as comfort foods - food which is tasty to eat and filling, and generally bad for you. For some people, their entire diet is comfort food. Maybe their parents fed them comfort food at a young age when they were upset. Whatever the reason, those bad eating habits are now engrained. Your hypnotherapist can give you suggestions to change your automatic responses when you have an upset or a "stress moment".

In fact, hypnosis can help alleviate the pangs or cravings that we tend to feel even when we are not hungry, and do not need nourishment. Often we eat because we are just used to eating at a certain time, or because our tummies are used to feeling full. The problem with this is that over the years, we need to eat more and more to maintain that "full" feeling. Hypnosis can reverse this behavior to allow you to let go of the hunger pangs that occur at the wrong times.

Your hypnotherapist can also help you to change your mental patterns so that you feel better about yourself. Self-image is a big issue when it comes to weight and dieting issues.

Dieting is not difficult, as it happens. There is a huge variety of different options, including for those who want bigger portions, those who like particular foods, and so forth. It's making the adjustment to stick to a plan that makes the difference, and that's the key to success.

So, what's the game plan? First, when entering into any form of diet, exercise, or other lifestyle change, it's always a good idea to visit your doctor and get his advice on what to do and the limits. For example, if you have not exercised forever and you are 50 pounds overweight, it's not a good idea to suddenly try running 3 miles a day. You need to start slowly. So, get a diet and exercise plan from your doctor.

Next, understand that you have to take it slowly. Weight loss of 1-2 pounds a week is a standard goal, and this requires both diet and exercise. You can probably lose more in the short term by taking more extreme measures like starvation dieting. However, this will not last and is not recommended.

Second, understand that even with hypnosis, you are going to have to exert a little bit of will power. Hypnosis will help you greatly by making you aware of the urges and reframing your automatic responses. However, at some point you are going to have to just say "no". It's at this point that a hypnotic refresher, such as an MP3 recording, will be very effective.

There are many "Hypnosis weight loss" programs and CDs available. The best kind of program, however, is one which offers personalized individual sessions, backed up by recordings to be listened to between the sessions. Hypno-To-Go provides such a program, for example. The individual hypnotherapy sessions, which can be performed over the phone, will be directed towards your specific weight loss issues, and can also be tailored to support the specific diet and exercise program that you have chosen or that your doctor has recommended.

Finally, know that you are not alone. Millions of people are overweight and even obese as we stated above. However, this does not mean that you can not make a difference for yourself. Take the right steps, take them slowly, and commit to the long term, and a return to a lower weight will surely be in your future. I wish you the very best of success with your weight loss endeavors.

The Real Secret to Long Term Weight Loss

In one of the world's largest diet studies, it appears that diets actually damage your health. The results and the problems diets can cause should give you reason to keep reading.

According to Miller Jones, a professor of nutrition and food science at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota...

4th graders are aware of the word diet, especially the girls.

Recently a massive worldwide study concluded that diets don't work long term for the majority of people on them and it might even put your life at risk.

This type of yo-yo behavior is linked to many health problems. Because of the strain on the body of repeated weight loss and weight gain, the researchers found that the dieters would have been better off not dieting at all.

Research has shown the repeated rapid weight gain and loss associated with dieting can double the risk of death from heart disease, including heart attacks, and the risk of premature death in general.

For starters...

When you think 'diet' you are actively engaging in short term thinking. When you start to think of it as something you go on and then off again, that's the wrong direction.

Some of the BEST resources on nutrition are not diets. They are eating plans. They are the basics of eating correctly for the rest of your life. Eating for everyday living is something you can be taught. There's nothing short term about them.

"The benefits of dieting are simply too small and the potential harms of dieting are too large for it to be recommended as a safe and effective treatment for obesity." -Dr Traci Mann

A quick test is to simply look at any given plan and immediately ask yourself...

Can I eat this way for the rest of my life and not fall prey to hunger cravings or temptations?

Frankly...

If you are overweight, then thinking in the short term is exactly why you could be doomed to fail! As you bounce from one plan to the next, you become more and more frustrated.

FACT: Many diets that use a severe calorie restriction just makes it harder to lose the weight the next time.

FACT: Some studies show that repeated weight loss and regain actually increase the changes you'll gain even more weight the next time.

FACT: It shouldn't come as a shock that people who exercise report the most long term weight loss.

Now with all this in mind...

No matter what eating plan you choose or what your goals, just drop the word 'diet' from your vocabulary and pick a plan you can stick with for life. That encourages slow weight loss or weight gain. That doesn't "demonize" foods but helps you pick and choose from healthy alternatives and explains the reasons why.

If you are always changing your eating habits for special events or every 8 weeks, you might be dieting. Before you start your next diet, that's the time to step back and ask yourself if you know all you can about proper, healthy nutrition. Learning how to eat correctly is something you can stick with for life and avoid the common frustrations.

Hurry and grab your own copy of Marc David's 6 Simple Steps to Success in creating your own personal nutrition plan. The South Beach Diet Plan - How I Made it Through Phase 1

I love to eat! I guess thats why I hate dieting so much.

Most of those fad diets either totally restrict you from eating the foods you love (and crave), or they make you eat an overabundance of the foods that are well, not my favorite.

After all, how many eggs, peanuts or oranges can you really eat? I guess thats why I was so hesitant to follow my friends on the South Beach Diet bandwagon.

They were all trying it, and yes, even losing weight. I watched enviously as their waistlines got smaller and smaller, but couldnt get their groans and complaints out of my head during those first few days and weeks on the program.

Give up all sugar, carbs and fats for two whole weeks! Not me! No way! Not even for a smaller dress size.

Then I went to see my doctor for an unwell feeling I couldnt shake. I wasnt really sick, I just felt tired and icky all of the time. After some tests, he told me my glucose levels were rising, my cholesterol was hitting an all-time high, and even my blood pressure was boiling.

Me? Ms. Healthy? I knew it was time to get serious, so I asked around and did some research and actually found out that, in addition to being a diet, the South Beach plan was being used by people not only as a safe way to lose the weight that affects your health, but it also teaches you how to eat in a more nutritious and satisfying way.

Okay, time to give it a try. And the very first thing I ran up against youre probably heard about it -- was the dreaded Phase I of the South beach Diet Plan: the hell of restriction, as my friends like to cal it.

Luckily, I knew so many people whove been on the diet already, I could turn to them for assurance and advice.

By the way, thats Tip #1: Get a Support System in Place.

For me it made all the difference. I honestly dont know if I would have succeeded without the support of my friends. They shared their tips and stories of surviving the first 14 days on the program and made me feel like I could too. Here are some of my favorite survival tips:

Indulge in one last favorite meal and dessert before starting the diet
Get everything thats not allowed to touch your lips in the first 14 days out of the house and threaten anyone who dares to sneak in contraband foods
Keep a daily journal about your feelings during Phase I (its great to read how those cravings and yearnings really affected the way you think and feel after its all just a distant memory
Avoid mall shopping during Phase I (the smells of the food court will kill you)
Dont plan on attending any family gatherings, school functions, parties, etc. for two full weeks (become a hermit)

Ill admit it, during those first few days on South Beach all I wanted was to dive headfirst into a bag of chocolate chip cookies, dipped in whipped cream, with a side a fries and a big slice of pizza.

But when a friend came over and cooked me the most delicious meal of lean chicken and sauted veggies sprinkled with low-fat cheese (yes, I said cheese!), I knew that Id make it.

Thats Tip #2: Presentation.

The plate she set before me could have rivaled one found in any five-star restaurant. I learned that night that a beautifully prepared plate of colorful veggies cooked to perfection out beats a bag of Oreos 10 to 1.

Within a week my grumpiness was subsiding after all, my sugar levels were leveling out and my blood pressure was coming down and I wasnt even craving junky stuff anymore. I was actually looking forward to finding new ways to prepare and serve my new healthier food choices.

Which leads me to Tip #3: Learn to Cook.

Since starting South Beach I have learned how to really enjoy cooking. Watching a variety of cooking shows and incorporating their ideas using my South Beach approved foods was one way I found to survive the first phase of the program, since you can always find new and interesting ways to prepare and enjoy the foods I was permitted.

I couldnt believe when the two weeks were over. It seemed to go by so fast, and then I was allowed to start reintroducing some of my favorites again into my daily eating plan, like fresh fruit and bread (thank God!).

The best part was I no longer craved some of those no-no foods like cake, ice cream and even, yes, those diet buster cookies! And I managed to lose a whopping 12 pounds, a true triumph for someone like me who had never been able to follow any diet for longer than a day or two before!

Was starting the South Beach Diet difficult? Yes, in the first few days, but it sure was worth it!

Did you know that most people who dont complete the South Beach Diet Plan drop out because they cant make it through Phase 1? Want to avoid becoming a part of that statistic? Natural Weight Loss is the Only Path to Permanent Ftiness

We as educated people need to start getting angry at all the junk aimed at us everyday. The average American sees thousands of ads each and every day for everything from diet pills to prescription drugs.

Most promise a quick cure for whatever ails us. The weight loss industry alone is estimated to be over $35 Billion dollars annually, so marketing and ads play a vital role in keeping us interested and buying.

Now we have come up with RLS, (restless leg syndrome). This will probably be a new "chronic condition" treated by an existing prescription drug, allowing it to continue generating profits longer

We need to start using our heads and understand what weight loss is and what it means. Losing weight alone is not the most important thing. We citizens of western countries are too fat. Losing fat and losing weight are two distinctly different things.

Also distinctly different is how we lose the weight / fat.

A pound of fat equals about 3500 calories. To burn 3500 calories you would need to reduce your daily caloric intake by 500 calories per day for one week, while remaining constant at your current activity level, or you could consume the same number of calories daily and exercise more to burn 500 calories per day. To burn 500 calories through exercise you would need to ride a stationary bike, as an example, for about 1 & hours per day at a rate of about 25 MPH average. Or you could do a combination of decreasing by 250 and burning 250.

The claims that you can "lose 30 pounds in 30 days" are weight not fat. To lose 30 pounds of fat in 30 days you would need to burn 105,000 calories in excess of what you eat, which I'm sure we all agree isn't likely.

Claims aimed at fast weight loss are telling you, you'll lose weight not fat. Fat is harmful to the body not weight per se.

Rapid weight loss through severely restricted caloric intake causes the body to react as if it were sick. It is conditioned to say "Oh Oh"; I'm in trouble I'd better conserve energy. I may not get more food for awhile.

Fat is stored energy. What the body then conserves is fat. It does exactly what you don't need or want it to do, it slows your metabolism, burns lean muscle mass for energy and conserves the fat.

The rapid weight loss that happens the first 30 days is water. Muscle contains about 3 times as much water as fat. So if you lose a pound of muscle you're losing 3 pounds of water with it.

That's why diets alone slow down, there's only so much water to get rid of.

You can't blame the ad agencies, or the diet program companies, people are being sold what they want to buy. They want a quick fix to a problem without sacrifice or change.

The truth is once you learn what the body needs and how it works there is no great need for sacrifice. You can eat nearly anything you want, just less of it, and exercise more.

We are just so conditioned to instant gratification, that we're always awaiting the next miracle drug to make us all look like Hollywood celebrities. The $35 billion is just giving us what we demand.

Obesity has grown by over 20% in the last decade, in spite of the fact we are spending $35 Billion a year on weight management products. Does that suggest to anyone maybe they aren't working?

Well it did to me so I did two years of research on the subject and was shocked at what I learned. It might do all of us some good to do the same research.

"But Mom, I Exercise Everyday, but Still No Weight Loss"

For all you mothers and fathers out there--miracles of miracles! I just got a little bit smarter! I never imagined that it would happen. Im not holding my breath, though; it might not last very long.

I was really dumb not many years ago when my three kids were teenagers, and they made sure to remind me just how dumb they thought I was.

I dont know exactly what possessed her (maybe a snow demon up there in frigid Alaska), but three weeks ago my youngest daughter, Nika, actually asked her dumb mother for advice.

But, this is whats so extraordinary, dear friend.

She didnt ask me for mother-daughter, girlie-girl kind of advice. She asked me for weight loss advice, a topic I happen to know a bit about, and one I purposely dont discuss with my daughters.

Can you blame me?

For once in my life, I quieted myself, listened closely, and, trust me, thought very carefully before I ventured into the tricky mine-field of mothers, daughters, and sensitive self-esteems.

My mama bear instinct instantly sensed that she was beyond frustrated. She hated her weight, her body, and not feeling good about herself.

Her clothes were tight. She got sick a lot. And she was tired. When the scale showed that she had hit an all-time high, she cried. It took her two days before she could get up the nerve to tell her husband how much she weighed. She was so ashamed.

She said, Mom, I just feel fat.

This mama bears heart just shattered in a million little pieces. I could feel my daughters pain.

And you, Mom, know what kind of pain Im talking aboutthe worst kind of pain of all.

The worst part, Mom, as Nika bravely continued her tale of woe, is that I exercise every day and have for a long time, but I still cant lose weight.

And then she opened the gate into that mine-field and asked, Mom, what can I do to lose weight?

Can you even imagine how much courage it took for my darling daughter to ask me that question?

Her courage, and her trust in herself and in me, moved me to silent tears.

I took a deep breath, asked for guidance, and tenderly held my daughters hand as we tiptoed together into a deeper level of our relationship.

I told her gently, Sweetie, if you tell me exactly what you eat, I will tell you exactly what you can do to lose weight. And if youre really ready, you will lose weight.

She was indeed ready.

A couple of days ago, Nika called me up. She called me in the middle of my work day, something she rarely does.

She just couldnt wait one moment longer. She was absolutely flying high.

In three weeks, she had lost 15 pounds! Her clothes were loose on her. Her upcoming graduation outfit had to be altered twicedown another size. She felt energized and better about herself than she had in years.

I asked her if she felt deprived. No, Mom, not at all. I do just what you said. I eat until I am full and satisfied. I just fill up on the right foodslike lots of fruits, salads, and vegetables. I still eat meat sometimes, but I got rid of cheese, butter, oils, and snacks before bed.

Then Nika shared with me something I had never known beforethat teaches me for thinking that I know everything about my kids.

She said that she never thought she could lose weight unless she starved herself or got sick.

As she said, I found out for myself that losing weight is not about eating or not eating; its about what you eat. And for the first time in my life, I feel like I am in control of my body, and I feel wonderful! I actually look forward to eating fruit and salads now.

My heart sang in tune to my daughters heart.

But this, my friend, is the very best part of all to one very happy mama bear.

Nika confided in me that before the weight came off, she wanted people to notice her and compliment her on how she looked, just because she had worked so hard with her daily routine of exercise.

She wanted and needed the strokes from folks.

But now, Mom, I feel so good about myself that, all of a sudden, I dont care anymore what people think or say. In fact, if they ask me if Im on a diet, I just say no (because Im not) and change the subject.

Nika graduates from college this May. Her passion is to teach junior high school children.

When Nika walks into that classroom, whether it be a classroom in school or a classroom in life, her unique and beautiful light will shine brightly and illuminate the uniqueness and beauty of all those whose lives she touchesespecially this one mama bear.

Thanks, my friend, for allowing me to share a piece of my life and heart with you.

Burn The Fat - How Diets and Eating Plans Can Help You

The word diet has been given negative connotations over the years, as people would go days without eating anything except for the occasional salad, claiming they were on a diet. The truth of the matter is however, that a diet is simply a pre-planned eating habit. And if you plan ahead to eat the right foods in the right quantities, you just might be on your way to diet success.

If you're tired of the fad diets and serious about weight loss there are plenty of legitimate diets and eating plans that can lead you to success. Some of the more popular programs are the Weight watchers, Jenny Craig, and Slim fast plans. These diets have been around for some time and have numerous testimonies to their success. The only downside would be the cost of the food which is more expensive than the alternatives.

If you'd like to go it alone, which should save you some money, there are some basic rules to keep in mind. First, watch out for simple carbohydrate foods which are known to raise insulin which ends up stored as fat. These aren't just the cakes, cookies, and donuts that we find so hard to resist, but foods like bread and pasta as well. While you don't want to give up on these foods altogether, it's possible to offset the rise in insulin that they cause by eating complex carbohydrate foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains which keep insulin levels low.

Another way to aid your diet is to be careful with fat-free foods. This one catches a lot of dieters off-guard as they believe they can eat as much of them as they want. Unfortunately, many times these foods may be low fat, but high in calories as they replace the fat with sugar. Again, fruits and vegetables are naturally low in fat.

A great rule for weight loss diets is more daily meals, but smaller portions. It is the norm in our culture today to eat until we get full every meal of the day. This really wreaks havoc on our weight loss program, especially when we're eating the wrong foods. The importance of eating only until we feel content cannot be overstressed, especially when super sizing a meal can cost just a little bit more. These excess calories are just going to be stored as fat.

Asking the advice of your physician is also a great place to start. Your doctor can provide you with handouts that will be a great guide to improving your diet and losing weight. What makes this a wise decision is that your physician can tailor your diet plan to meet your specific needs.

Watch for hidden fats by carefully reading the nutrition label of every product you buy. Simple everyday foods like milk, meat, and even salad dressings contain fat. Cut down your intake of these high fat foods, by examining the calorie count which is in direct relation to the fat content.

Cabbage Soup Diet - Cruciferous Cabbage Can Kill Cancer Cells

Aside from its role in the Cabbage Soup Diet, cabbage also plays an important part in fighting against Cancer. Cancer is one of the primary causes of the increasing mortality rate in the world. It affects everyone - the rich and the poor, the young and the old, men, women, and children alike.

Although cancer is mainly hereditary, we can still do ways to avoid it. One of which is consuming cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli and cabbage.

Researches and Studies in Cabbages

In the National Cancer Research Conference held recently in Britain, a study was conducted and presented that green leafy vegetables such as cabbage and Brussels sprout contain a certain compound - indole-3-carbinol (I3C) - that can be used to kill cancer cells, most especially when used in combination with the chemotherapy drugs. The indole group of sulfur compounds binds to the chemical carcinogens and stimulates enzymes that will detoxify those carcinogens. The I3C found in cabbages appear to have the effects on estrogen metabolism, helping prevent breast cancer. Such compound is also significant in preventing or retarding cancer of the prostate.

A study was also conducted by the Netherlands Cohort on Diet and Cancer. The study revealed that those eating the most vegetables gained a 25% drop in their colorectal risk. However, those who consumed the most cruciferous vegetables benefited a 49% lower risk for colorectal cancer.

Cabbages Fight Against Cancer

In Singapore, a study found that in non-smokers, regular consumption of cruciferous vegetables reduced lung cancer risk by 30%. Meanwhile, a 69% drop in lung cancer risk was found with the smokers.

A research which was published in the International Journal of Cancer has proven that cabbages, along with other cruciferous vegetables, can also reduce the risk of bladder cancer.

Crucifers' well-known properties in fighting against cancer are thought to have resulted from their great levels of active phytochemicals known as glucosinolates. These phytochemicals are metabolized by our bodies into powerful and rather effective anti-carcinogens known as isothiocyanates.

Proven Benefits of Cabbages

Studies, both in humans and animals, have consistently shown that diets that are high in cruciferous vegetables, such as cabbage, are associated with lower occurrence of a variety of cancer.

With the 94 studies that have shown the relationship between Brassica or cruciferous vegetables and cancer, 70% of the studies revealed that cabbage consumption was more associated with a lower risk of cancer, especially of the stomach, colon, and lung.

The protective benefits of cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables were even more evident in three groups typically at higher risk for cancer: smokers, men, and older individuals who aged at least 64. Consuming half of a head of cabbage everyday or very large amounts of other cruciferous vegetables is what it would take for you to have the kind of health risk reduction that you are searching for.

And to get the most benefit and advantage from your cruciferous vegetables, most especially the cabbages, ensure that you choose organically grown vegetables because their phytonutrients levels are primarily higher than those cabbages that are conventionally grown. Lightly steam your cabbages as this method of cooking retains the most phytonutrients and maximizes their availability.

Calorie Shifting Diet - As Easy As It Sounds

Calorie shifting diet has increased in popularity over the last year. Is this diet as good as everybody says or is it just the latest fad diet?

The knowledge of calorie shifting is as old as dieting. Major forces have tried to keep the knowledge of this diet to a minimum because it would harm their business. There is nothing magical with shifting calories. It all comes down to simple physiology. We all know that we gain weight by eating much and using less, i.e. we eat a fast food menu that is loaded with fat and energy during our lunch break, we then go back to the office and sits down the rest of the day, except when we go to the coffee shop for a latte and a snack (that also is loaded with energy).

What does this tell our body? Well, it figures that we are in a time were the supply of foods is excellent, yet, it prepares for the worst, starvation. How does the body prepare for this? It takes all of the energy that you put in your mouth but don't burn and throw it in to a fat cell were it is easily stored. We may think that we get more and more fat cells, but actually there are pretty much the same amount of fat cells our whole lifetime. To be able to store more fat, these cells grows larger and larger until they one day say that it is enough. They don't want any more fat because they may burst, just like pouring too much water into a balloon. Our body gets angry and increases the insulin levels because insulin is the key to open the fat cell. Now, the fat cell accepts a little more fat before it says 'no more' a second time. Now the whole organism (our body) is affected by the high levels of insulin and it starts to get resistant to the insulin. Oh boy, now we are in trouble. What does it mean that we don't respond to the high levels of insulin? Well, we get a diagnose called Diabetes Mellitus (or Diabetes Type 2). And remember, this is just the mere beginning of the trouble we are in.

Ok, back to calorie shifting. As written above, our metabolism enjoys the rich times but prepares for the worst times, it has learned to behave this way through the years of evolution.

The metabolism is a complex function but in general it takes what you ate the last couple of days and presumes that you will eat pretty much the same diet the following days. This gives us the opportunity to control (or mislead) our own metabolism. We feed it one type of calories one day and the next we shift calories into another type (see where the name calorie shifting diet comes in). This confuses the metabolism and it will respond by increasing the release of fats from the fat cells. At the same time your insulin level adjusts and become more regular, no more spikes after a chocolate bar. This makes the body less eager to save the fat for a possible starvation period.

The theory behind calorie shifting diet is exciting and it will help you knowing how to act in certain situations. Not only will it help you lose fat, it will also make you understand a whole lot more about your own body.

We want to be in charge of it, right?

Jennifer Olsen was a master of failing at different diets. She understood that there were more to losing weight then just going on a diet. Today she has lost nearly 50 pounds with the calorie-shifting diet and meanwhile she has finished reading 'Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle' and she is implementing what she learned into daily activities.

She made a mini-site that gives examples of diets, complete fast weight loss diets, free calorie shifting diets and reviews of books that helped her stop living the unhealthy life and turning around into a more healthy life-style.

Effective Ways To Weight Loss

You're already trying hard to lose weight. You're exercising and eating right. You're drinking more water and less juice. So how about doing a couple extra things this year to lose a couple extra pounds? Let's take a look at a few things you could do to supplement your weight loss:

1. Eat a salad before every meal. If you eat a full salad without dressing before you order or make your main meal, you may not find yourself eating as much of the high calorie foods to get full. You may be able to cut as much as 100 to 200 calories from each meal, which could help you lose one to two pounds per week. More importantly, you'll be eating healthier.

2. Use cinnamon flavored gum as your only snack. Whenever you feel yourself getting hungry and it isn't meal time, try popping a piece of sugar free cinnamon gum in your mouth. We're not sure why, but cinnamon gum seems to provide a hunger satisfaction not received from fruit and mint flavors.

3. Take 20 to 30 minutes to relax before consuming meals. This relaxation time could be taking a walk or talking with friends. In the mornings you may want to have your devotional time before your meal. Water the plants in your house or read a newspaper. Don't watch TV, as contrary to what many think, this causes a physiological stress reaction in the body.

4. Try new types of fruits and vegetables whenever you see some you haven't eaten before. Every new healthy food that you discover a liking for is another variety of alternative low-calorie food for you to use in your weekly meal plans. Many diets feel because they lack variety of flavors, so the more healthy variety you add the less you'll crave a change in diet. You may even play in the kitchen and create two or three great new recipes out of each new food you find.

5. Almost never combine eating with other activities. The only exception are family meals when some healthy conversation at the dinner table may be of more value than weight loss. You will almost always eat more if you're entertained while you eat.

It is important to keep your family and friends close while you are working on your weight loss efforts. Keep your support system close and take time to talk with people. Isolating yourself can undermine your weight loss efforts. Reach out and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

There is more than one effective way of dieting; the question is which diet is the right one for you? TT Bodyweight 500 Workout Vs The Spartan 300 Movie Workout - What's the Difference?

If you ever saw the movie 300 (if you didn't than I recommend that you do because it has fabulous special effects), you must have been awed by the kind of muscular bodies the actors who played the spartan warriors had. I mean rock hard abs, massive shoulders and pecs, everything toned and tight. Many people thought that this was just another special effect, but it wasn't. The bodies of the spartan warriors were the result of a special workout which all these actors did in preparation for the movie called the spartan 300.

What the spartan 300 movie exercise session basically consists of are 300 repetitions of various strength exercises which have to be performed continuously without any pause. This is a massively intensive workout which leaves anyone who does it gasping and sweating like crazy.

The only problem with the spartan 300 workout is that it involves equipment like Kettleballs which most gyms don't carry. This puts the 300 workout out of the reach of most gym goers, not to mention people who train at home.

To deal with this problem, a trainer called Craig Ballantyne invented a new exercise session called the TT Bodyweight 500 workout. In this exercise session you need to do 500 reps of various strength exercises which work against your bodyweight alone. This means that you can do this workout at the gym and at home. One thing you need to know is that this exercise session, despite being very short in duration is also very intensive. It will get your heart pumping, your skin sweating, and your muscle straining. For busy people who wish to lose a lot of fat fast and to develop lean muscle tissue, the TT bodyweight 500 workout is an excellent and time efficient workout.

The TT bodyweight 500 workout is part of Craig Ballantyne's complete fitness and diet program.

I strongly recommend Fat Loss 4 Idiots to anyone who would like to lose weight naturally and keep it off by changing their overall lifestyle.
  2. Truth About 6 Pack AbsThis weight loss program comes very close to Fat loss 4 idiots and helps lose fat all over the body. The only difference between this weight loss program and Fat Loss for idiots is that there is no software to track your meal plan for the next upcoming week. However it does provide healthy recipe information to burn fat.
  3. Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle - This weight loss program is also a top notch plan which shares a medically proven system to burn fat and increase muscle mass. Weight Loss Tips - Never Skip Breakfast To Lose Weight!

A weight loss regimen does not have to be the ordeal that it is made out to be. The process of reducing unwanted body fat can turn out to be a positively encouraging endeavor that helps you continue on the path to greater vitality and health.

Many people in the hope of achieving fast weight loss, resort to extreme measures, such as skipping breakfast. It is totally a wrong notion that not eating breakfast can make you thinner sooner.

The first meal of the day is very important as it sets the tone for the rest of the day. The next meal, in terms of importance, is lunch. Studies have shown that people, who on a daily basis, consume at least half of their total daily calories in the first two meals, stay slimmer and trimmer.

Skipping breakfast triggers off the "starvation response," and slows down the metabolism. This also may be a contributing factor to calories being stored as fat, which is what you are trying to avoid in the first place.

Eating early is the key to good health. This keeps the energy levels up throughout the rest of the day, but try not to eat three hours before bedtime, as these calories are mostly stored as fat. Another disadvantage of eating very late in the day is the difficulty in waking up in the morning.

Achieving weight loss, even quick weight loss, is possible while eating all the meals. You only need to do it the right way.

Having a Hard Time Building Muscle & Losing Weight - Metabolic Damage And Enzyme Deficiency

In a recent discussion with an elite field of training experts many of the well-known authors, trainers and scientists had noticed a growing trend in the general population about the inability to lose body fat. Most of the experts first witnessed an increase in the number of guys and girls in high performance sport particularly bodybuilding that was not responding to traditional dieting and training protocols.

It seems no matter what these individuals did their bodies refused to drop the extra body fat. I had noticed a similar trend in some of clients who had been exposed to high levels of toxic substances, females who had given birth, and in individuals who consumed high levels of processed food.

To date it does seem that in large part the medical profession is blind to the seriousness and scope of Metabolic Damage, its causes and effects, there are always those few individuals who are able by experience, specialized knowledge, and integrated application of sound nutritional and training practices who can provide solutions.

I too came about the same observations of metabolic damage although from a slightly different route. I would also like to add that this topic is a vast and sometimes technical topic, and by no means can I illustrate everything you need to know about enzymes, metabolic damage, weakness, or deficiency.

For a detailed account of how enzymes work, why we need them, and why its so hard to obtain them in modern society I strongly advise reading Dr. Howells book: Enzyme Nutrition.

Dr. Howell was the leading pioneer in enzymes for almost 70 years before his death around the age of 100. His work lives on through the researchers that work for the company he founded. I will talk more about that in a future post. History often leaves clues I will first explain how I came about the discovery of enzyme therapy.

A Growing Trend

I have been in around the health and fitness community for about 20 years, but in the last few years I have noticed distinct trends in clients who were coming to see me. The first group I observed was high performance athletes who recently completed a major competition or long season of training.

These athletes for the most part had been training for most of their lives and then suddenly experienced a significant drop in performance, motivation, and experienced more injuries, body fat increases, and reduced speed, and endurance.

The second group I have encountered were women who had recently given birth. These women, many who were tremendous athletes prior to becoming pregnant suddenly began showing extreme fatigue, large gains in body fat, coupled with digestive disorders after giving birth.

The third group were individuals both men and women who had followed extreme nutrient and calorie deficient diets, particularly followers of the Dr. Bernstein diets, as well as people who had come off the Atkins diet, individuals with a history of eating disorders, and individuals who had experience challenges with brain chemistry.

All of these individuals had gained tremendous amounts of weight in short periods of time and had become to resistant to proven regimens of weight loss. Now most of these clients were not high performance athletes yet they all showed similar symptoms; constipation, low energy, depressed immune function, emotional discord, sluggish metabolisms and digestive disorders.

Many of these individuals had been following exercise and diet programs for years but suddenly there bodies just stopped responding.

The most startling group in my range of investigations was a group of extremely fit women, who after pregnancy experienced a host of metabolic disorders resulting in numerous complications.

Having experienced the rigors of extensive contest dieting myself, and the accompanying symptoms, I have continually sought out ways or solutions to improve my own performance.

Since my own experiences, although not as severe, were similar to what my clients were experiencing I sought to find a way to overcome these challenges and provide a solution to the conditions leading to metabolic damage.

The Mystery Cause of Fatigue And The Low Calorie Diet

I have never bought into the belief that just because someone is on a low calorie diet they should feel fatigued, tired, listless and all the side effects reported by individuals currently undergoing such regimens. Like many others in my field, I felt there was some other factor involved that was not being accounted for, but this factor remained a mystery to me for over 10 years.

I retired from competing to devote more time to pursue this avenue as it had become so widespread in the individuals that were coming to see me from all different age groups, sexes, and backgrounds. I started investigating digestive functioning, metabolism, as well as patterns of food production throughout history.

After pouring over research, speaking with experts in the nutrition field, and the reviewing the latest medical journals on diet: nutrition, and metabolism, I was lead to one key individual. His name was Dr. Michael OBrien.

Medical Genius Rebuilds Dying Nutrition Expert In 8 Weeks

Now Dr. OBrien is more than a remarkable individual. Accolades, testimonials, or descriptions, would not begin to quantify or qualify the man or the wisdom he possesses. First off he was the former director of two medical clinics in California, he is also a master nutrition formulator for over 50 years.

Whats more remarkable is that he successfully treated himself of cirrhosis of the liver, as well as terminal colon cancer using enzymes, probiotics, and a patented amino acid formulation he designed.

Dr. OBrien also was the man behind literally thousands of recoveries from terminal diseases including: cancer, heart disease, lupus, AIDS and virtually every other terminal illness in existence. He was also the doctor who was responsible for orchestrating the complete and astounding recovery of legendary health expert Dr. Bernhard Jensen (See Chapter 13 Come Alive by Bernhard Jensen).

I had the good fortune of attending two professional lectures held by Dr. OBrien. Its hard to describe the sheer impact that seeing Dr. OBrien in person has on someone. First off although he is close to 90 years old he has almost no wrinkles in his skin. His countenance radiates light, his eyes sparkle, his actions are quick and fluid and his mind is extremely sharp.

In fact I have never been in the presence of ANYONE who radiated so much life, wisdom and compassion. In other words he practices what he preaches, which in todays world of false gurus is a rare occurrence.

Dr. OBrien illustrates that his lifetime work, like aforementioned Dr. Howell, has concluded that all diseases are actually Symptoms of Deficiency. In the course of his lectures, he provides a wealth of support to back up his claim. He also has proven that when an individual treats the deficiency the symptoms stop and the disease is cured. It is also Dr. OBriens belief that there are No Incurable diseases, just incurable people.

Now I know you might be asking, What does this have to do with Metabolic Damage?

Metabolic Damage, Obesity, And Enzyme Deficiency

In fact I asked Dr. OBrien this very question myself. He quickly stated and presented a wealth of information both research and anecdotal that the primary cause of deficiency is a lack of Enzymes present in our food supply. While this is not the only factor it is most definitely the prime factor and perhaps the easiest to correct.

Dr. OBrien stated that he had first come to this discovery after reading a book by Dr. Howell on Enzymes when he himself was on his deathbed. He then applied a series of aggressive enzyme treatments to himself over the period of 16 months and cured himself of terminal liver disease. Dr. Howell explains the reasons and causes of Enzyme deficiency in his book Enzyme Nutrition but I will try to summarize.

Enzyme deficiency over time puts tremendous strain in the human digestive system as the body must use Metabolic Enzymes to digest Enzyme Deficient food. This drain on metabolic and systemic enzymes over time, leads to most of the symptoms of disease as well as the primary cause of the effects of what we call Aging.

How Food Supple Became Enzyme Deficient

Since World War II there has been an extensive use of chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers used in the growing of our food supply, coupled by a leaching out of minerals in the soil. In all of these cases, the plants grown give up their enzymes in order to accommodate the compromised growing conditions. The result is that the enzyme content of our food is extremely diminished from that of food production a hundred years ago (For example: In 1900 wheat was 90 percent protein, today its just 9 percent, similar reports are available in nutrient depletion in the Medicine Today Journal, April, 2002).

The use of pharmaceuticals on livestock also contributes to enzyme damage in the animals human consume. Other factors that contribute to enzyme destruction include food cooked at temperatures above 118 degrees Fahrenheit. Heat destroys any enzymes present in the food you consume.

Irradiation of vegetables and fruits, modern food processing, depleted soil, and the widespread use of chemicals, drugs, and preservatives all contribute to an absence of food enzymes in our diets. These combined factors contribute to considerably higher demands on the metabolic systems of humans. In other words there is a host of factors that are contributing to the problem not a singular cause as most of us are conditioned to believe.

Your Body Produces Enzymes But Is It Enough?

Now every doctor will tell you that the body produces its own enzymes in sufficient amounts to digest your food. What the doctor will not tell you, as he most likely is not aware, is the fact that no species on earth was designed to exist on enzyme deficient diets.

Dr. Howells research demonstrates clearly that in every single species he tested that was fed an enzyme deficient diet, developed metabolic disorders such as extreme weight gain, Type II diabetes and a host of other conditions including pre-mature death (see studies in Dr. Howells Food Enzymes and Longevity).

Numerous other researchers in the field duplicated these studies and are cited in Howells books. Whats worse is that these enzyme deficiencies were passed on to subsequent generations.

In all cases, species fed enzyme deficient diets for a period of three generations developed extensive genetic disorders, such as inability to reproduce, extensive and unusual behavioral disorders, development and acceleration of various diseases, as well as severe metabolic dysfunction (see the classical study done by F.M. Pottengers over 10 years on 900 cats).

Again I am summarizing a considerable amount of information and I strongly advise reading Howells books to get the Full Picture.

Enzyme Deficiency And The Diabetes Connection

Research has also shown that the Pancreas of humans has shown to be three times the normal size in bodyweight comparisons between species. Interestingly this exact pathology was demonstrated in Dr. Howells experiments on animals fed enzyme deficient diets.

In all cases, Type II diabetes, excessive weight gain, as well as other metabolic and genetic disorders became prominent in the Enzyme deficient populations compared to the control group, even when the animals were fed exactly the same amount of calories. Whats interesting is the result coincides with observations I, and my colleagues have made in relation to our clients.

It became apparent to me that the Enzyme deficiency in the food supply had become so common and widespread for so long it isnt even considered a factor by the medical community. Keep in mind that FDA testing and grading of food does not include testing for the presence of enzymes. So there is no pressure for farmers to produce high nutrient content food.

The classification of food is primarily determined by the look of the food, and the weight of food. Another factor contributing to the Enzyme oversight is the fact most doctors have only a few credit hours of basic nutrition and are not really qualified to make nutritional assessments of their patients. The medical field is primarily concerned with the treatment of disease not disease prevention. Big Difference so pointing fingers does little good.

Dont Blame The Doctors!

Doctors have a tough enough job as it is and discovering the cause of Metabolic Damage in general is not high on their priority list considering the current challenges facing most medical practitioners today.

While there seems to be a correlation in food enzyme deficiency and metabolic damage or the conditions leading to the onset of disease, I needed more information to support the case. This is where Dr. OBriens experience and expertise completely obliterated any rational objections one might have against the Food Enzyme Concept as presented by Dr. Howell.

Dr. OBrien developed a regimen, which included enzyme therapy to control, reverse and eliminate virtually every major disease known to mankind. The regimen was relatively static and only varied in the dosage the individual could take based on the current state of his patient, the economics of the individual, and the speed at which the person desired their conditions to cease.

Deeper Down The Enzyme Rabbit Hole

I personally subjected myself, and a group of 12 individuals of different ages, backgrounds, sexes and conditions to Dr. OBriens regimen. All 12 of the subjects experienced radical improvements in metabolism, body fat reduction, improved muscle building, recovery, digestive, and eliminative functioning. We all experienced positive changes in dietary selection, emotional well being as well as improved cognitive function.

OBrien states that in most cases 4-6 months of aggressive enzyme therapy was enough to eliminate the symptoms of deficiency and cure almost any symptoms of metabolic dysfunction. In some patients he stated 1 year to 18 months was required to completely eradicate serious states of metabolic dysfunction, such as those conditions present in advanced conditions of AIDS, Lupus etc.

Now Dr. OBriens interest was primarily in the treatment and prevention of disease as well as the field of longevity but I knew that his discoveries could be applied to the area of athletic performance including more mainstream goals such as weight loss.

I speculated that if athletes and ordinary people began supplementing their diets with digestive enzymes it would improve performance by reducing the drain of metabolic enzymes to digest food thereby correcting metabolic damage in the population at large.

Treatment dosages were the primary limiting factor in how fast one recovered from any condition or how fast their performance improved in a given athletic endeavor. Unlike traditional therapy with drugs, enzyme dosages were not limited as side effects such as the breaking of the GI barrier did not occur in patients on dosages as high as 1000 capsules a day (this is Extreme to say the least).

Finding The Right Formula

Since Dr. OBriens company was not able to provide me with his Enzyme formulation as he could not provide enough enzymes to meet his current demand I immediately set about formulating an Enzyme Product geared particularly for athletes. In other words, people who followed dietary and training practices such as bodybuilders, fitness competitors, and every one else involved in cosmetic training.

What I learned will come as no surprise to anyone else on the inside of the supplement industry is that most products sold commercially on the market were of little to no value. The extreme costs of developing and stabilizing enzymes that would work in the broad PH range experienced throughout the gastro-intestinal tract is considerable.

The sheer economics of the situation had reduced most supplement companies to produce cheap enzymes that do not work in order to make viable profit margins. These enzymes are often animal based, or come enterically coated, and can be bought for a fraction of the cost of effective enzymes. This is one reason why enzyme therapy has traditionally been reserved for pharmaceutical companies or for individuals with extensive resources to afford private treatment.

Undaunted by the costs of development I engaged the expert formulators at Dr. Howells company to produce an enzyme product designed for the dietary and training demands of myself, my personal clients, and athletes in general.

After several months we came up with a new product that included a proprietary blend of Enzymes, precursors and stabilizers specifically designed and formulated for athletes interested in increasing muscle mass and decreasing body fat.

Tried, Tested And True

We then spent 6 months testing it out on a small group of bodybuilders age ranges of 15 to 72. The results have been encouraging to say the least.

Recently, I met with other industry professionals and discussed my findings and positive experiences with Enzyme Therapy as well as the potential solution to individuals suffering from metabolic damage. To say the least many of my peers are overjoyed and excited about what could be the greatest nutritional breakthrough of the last century.

I will also be making a small amount of my product available to individuals on my website who wish to undergo a regimen of Enzyme Therapy. This protocol is rather intense and expensive but its results are quite impressive. Our team is confident that the protocol we have developed can improve and alleviate the symptoms of metabolic damage and/or to improve individual athletic performance and health.

I look forward to sharing my experiences and information with you as well as answering your questions on this fascinating and exciting field.

The Weight Loss Benefit of Green Tea

For 4,000 years, Asians have regarded green tea as something more than simply a drink. Green tea was used as herbal medication and treatment for everything from headaches to depression and even for weight loss.

Research has been conducted over the last few years to discover what compound present in green tea makes it a strong health drink. The scientists have found that green tea contains a few antioxidants that are responsible for many of green tea's health benefits, including weight loss benefit.

A research study by American and Swiss scientists on the weight loss benefit of green tea was done and the results were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and Urology. Throughout the course of their investigation, they have found that green tea contains certain compounds that contribute to its weight loss benefit.

Lead researcher, D. Abdul Dulloo said in a press release there are only two ways to arrive at weight loss - either reduce energy intake or increase energy expenditure. Green tea seems to have compounds that can increase the body's normal metabolism rate, therefore its weight loss benefit.

At the University of Geneva, where the study was conducted, Dr. Dulloo and his colleagues experimented on ten healthy young men. They theorized the major contributor to green tea's weight loss benefit is its caffeine content. To test this theory on green tea's weight loss benefit, they placed the study's participants on a conventional "Western" diet that is about forty percent fat, thirteen percent protein, and forty-seven percent carbohydrates.

Three times daily, the researchers measured their subjects' energy expenditure (the measurement used in discovering the number of calories burned in 24 hours) and recorded their respiration quotient to find out how well they used their carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

When they interpreted the statistics they collected, they found out the men receiving regular dosages of green tea extract showed a significant increase in their 24-hour energy expenditure. The men showed a decrease in their respiration quotient (which means that more fat is burned, achieving maximum weight loss). On the other hand, those men who were only given caffeine or a placebo with each meal showed only slight increases in their metabolism rates.

The scientists construed the substance catechin polyphenol present in green tea adds to its weight loss benefit. These substances in green tea may change how the body uses the hormone norepinephrine that is responsible for increasing the metabolism rate, thus leading to weight loss.

In their supposition, the scientists inferred that green tea owes its weight loss benefit to the presence of antioxidants and the substance catechin polyphenol. These substances promote increased fat and calorie burning and weight loss.

Death by Jogging

I am going to say this upfront... I absolutely hate those long, endurance cardio such as jogging and marathons...

Not only they are incredibly boring... they can also kill you!

And sure, the boring part is my opinion... I still have friends who swear by jogging.

One of them died several years ago. Man, this guy was the fittest person you would ever know. I mean, he was in shape! He died doing a five mile jog -- from a heart attack. A former NBA basketball player by the name of Dennis Johnson died after finishing his jog -- from a heart attack last year. The head coach of Wake Forest's college basketball team, Skip Prosser, died last year while jogging. It was ruled a heart attack.

And let's not forget Jim Fixx, the guy who pioneered jogging as an health benefit. He died at the age of 52 from a massive heart attack on his daily run over twenty years ago.

And all these men that I mentioned are not the first or the last to die from jogging or running a marathon.

Then there is another friend of mine... and boy, is he healthy for his age -- around fifty! He runs all the time... And I talked with his wife the other day, and it is the usual... if it isn't his knees, it's his ankles. If it isn't his ankles, it's his feet. And now he got incredibly painful, bone spurs in his feet.

Doesn't sound like a lot of fun?

I don't think so!

My personal opinion is that the human body wasn't designed for long distance running. If the saber tooth tiger doesn't get the caveman in the first 30 seconds... then he is probably too far away or up in the tree. No need to "train" your body to run 5-10 miles because that big cat ain't gonna be interested in you that long!

So why run for long distance in the first place? Too push yourself beyond human endurance? Well, you have a lot to lose so why put your heart at risk? Why not save yourself and your loved ones from the pain when you are gone by selecting much better exercise choices?

Here are the "benefits" (sic) that I see so far for long distance running:

* Long hours pounding the pavement that you could spend with your family and friends

* Sore knees, back pain and foot problems

* Expensive visits to the specialists to repair your worn out body

* Weak body -- have you ever seen those skinny, emaciated long distance runners on TV or the sports magazines? Just say no thanks!

So if you HAVE to run marathons and jog for long distances... DO get a full physical from your family doctor. Pay attention to your body while running -- use a hr monitor -- be moderately hydrated during the run.

And then there is another fat loss myth created by jogging...

That myth is probably responsible for most of the misinformation about what exactly you need to do to lose body fat. You see, most of the information we have for cardio is based on the studies on jogging back in the 70s and 80s when jogging was king.

And the message was... to lose that body fat, you must include those long, slow endurance jogging or cardio. Nowadays, we know that is a false message but many folks still believe in it...

Sigh...

And to top that myth, many folks believe you must eat a low-fat, high carbs diet (which incidentally was the rage during the 90s). It meant eating lots of sugary foods with flour. And again, many folks believe this type of diet still holds true...

Sigh...

And now we see the results of these mixed messages -- rising obesity and running injuries... every. single. year!

But there is light at the end of the tunnel... The media is starting to pick up on proven and effective workout methods that are healthy for our heart and burn fat from our bodies.

And those workouts incorporate strength training and interval exercises for muscle power and heart endurance.

We shouldn't leave out the most important thing and that would be (drum roll please...) NUTRITION!

Getting your nutrition right is the key to fat loss...

* Mom was right... eating lots of fruits and vegetables is good for you!

* Good quality and lean source of proteins

* Eating fiber rich carbohydrates that are in the low end of the glycemic index

In short, good nutrition and good exercise choices will give you the body you want without the injuries and fat. And you get to live longer too...

But watch out for the speeding bus anyway, huh?
