Weight Loss Allies

These are your weight loss allies;

Healthy food,
Tolerance for hunger,
Physical exercise.

Most weight loss dieters experience increased-efficiency, as calories are restricted. The quality of food choice at this restricted level of intake is crucial. Fat, sugar, and high protein are definitely avoided. Sugar in excess is converted directly to fat. High sugar foods are addictive and maintain cravings for more sugar.

Diets that depend on fruit and fruit juices, high in sugar are not desirable for weight reduction. Weight loss is directly equated to exercise; not food deprivation. The jogger or swimmer is losing weight. Even the walker is losing weight, although more slowly. Hunger must be restored as a normal, welcome feeling. There is nothing wrong with hunger! In order to establish new healthy eating patterns it is essential to practice being comfortably hungry for periods as long as 4-6 hours before eating. A normal rhythm might be 4 hours between meals.

The less you move, the longer you should stay hungry; another way of looking at weight loss. Of course, weight gain is a feature of a sedentary life style and the problem is that everyday you move too little and eat too much you are gaining weight.

Diets that emphasize changes in the proportions of protein, fat, carbohydrate, fibre, and so on do not have special properties for weight control. Vegetables foods have the most to offer a weight loss program since they have low nutrient density (you can eat a lot more) and seldom trigger cravings and compulsive eating.

The timing of meals is relevant to regulating eating behaviour. More food should be eaten earlier in the day. Compulsive eating is often more difficult to control at night. It is often necessary to restructure evening activities; start new and physical activities instead of sitting all evening. Avoid alcoholic beverages. The social context of drinking alcoholic beverages is seldom conducive to selective eating and impulse control.

Eat Foods with a High Nutrient Density

A key concept in weight management is that appetite and weight regulation is largely determined by the adequacy of the incoming nutrient set. A low nutrient to calorie ratio means you will eat more and gain weight. Remember your appetite control system does not like starvation. Low nutrient density means starvation.

Realistic motivation begins with knowing that it is not easy to change even when the change is beneficial. You do need help.

You need the right information. You need to understand how you got to be overweight. You need a map to guide you to the next state you wish to occupy. You need the right tools. When difficulties arise, you need problem-solving methods and you need to persevere. All worthwhile endeavours require commitment, dedication, and perseverance.

To lose weight you must exercise! The energy cost of physical activity must exceed the energy supplied by your food intake. Remember that weight loss is directly equated to physical exercise, not food deprivation.

If you are really serious about reducing your weight and are prepared to put in the effort required I can help you at this site...

8 Ways To Lose Facial Fat

Want to lose fat in your face? Unhappy with that fat chin? Feel like those fat cheeks are making you look "chipmunky?"

First, let's acknowledge that spot reduction of fat, through exercise or dieting anyway, is not possible. It would be nice if we could target our problem areas -- thighs, a spare tire, flabby arms, or in this case a chubby face -- and concentrate our efforts on melting the fat from those specific places. Nice, but not realistic.

That doesn't mean the situation is hopeless. Here are all the ways that I am aware of for helping to get rid of a fat face, or at least diminish its plump appearance.

1. Exercise and diet to lose overall body fat.

When we lose weight we tend to lose fat from over our whole bodies. If you are overweight, then sensible dieting along with a regular cardiovascular workout will burn fat from all areas, including your face. For some people the difference will be dramatic, for others less so, but all should enjoy some improvement in facial appearance. Remember: Spot fat loss through exercise isn't possible, but fat loss is.

2. Drink more water.

Drinking eight big glasses of water a day has been proven to aid in weight loss. Sometimes when we think we're hungry, our body is actually just thirsty. Drinking lots of water can take the edge off our "hunger" and keep us from overeating, thus helping us to lose fat.

There's another reason to drink water, though. Sometimes a fat looking (or puffy) face is caused by bloating, the body's retention of fluid as a response to being water deprived. If you're a woman--especially if you've just come through a pregnancy or are experiencing menopause--this could be part of the problem. So drink up! Good ol' H20, that is.

3. Firm up your face.

Some people swear by facial exercise; others consider it silly and question it effectiveness. It won't hurt to try it for a few weeks or a couple of months to see if it works for you. Remember, your aim here is to tighten and firm your skin, not to try to spot-reduce the underlying fat (since that's impossible anyhow).

Here's an old one for firming up a double chin: Using the back (top) of your hand, slap/tap the bottom of your chin rapidly yet firmly. Do this often, whenever you think of it.

For cheeks: Sit. Relax. Smile, keeping your lips closed. Now suck in your cheeks and hold them in while you count 8 seconds. Relax and repeat at least ten times. This is a good one to do while driving, as it requires no hands to perform. Another exercise for your cheeks is simply to smile as wide as you can (lips closed) as you imagine you are trying to touch your ears with the corners of your mouth.

4. Get older.

This is the easiest way of all to lose fat from the face -- it only requires patience!

If you're in your teens, twenties or even thirties, your roundish face might be caused by baby fat that has yet to melt. Give it some time, and meanwhile be sure to work on reducing your overall body fat if need be. As people age they tend to lose a lot of their facial fat. The drawback to this natural process is that by their fifties, some people end up with excessively gaunt looking faces. That's a problem to tackle another day, though.

5. Lose face fat the magician's way.

Magicians use misdirection to deceive. You can "lose" the fat in your face the same way -- by misdirecting the viewer's attention and by disguising the roundness.

Sorry, guys -- these are women-only subterfuges ... unless you are into makeup or have long hair. And so, ladies ...

If you have a double chin you want to camouflage, I'm told that adding some blush along your jaw line will do the trick. Start from just below your ears and brush it all the way to your chin, making sure to blend. If you also put a spot of white powder on the tip of the chin for a highlight, the overall effect will be dramatically slimming.

Similarly, to make your face look thinner, just brush bronzer over your cheekbones and temples, as well as under your chin. Boost the effect with white-powder highlights on chin tip, cheeks, forehead and the bridge or your nose.

Finally, ask your hairdresser for a style that will either hide or draw attention away from a round face. Hairdressers are experts in knowing which styles are best for which face shapes.

6. One word: Ultrasound.

Ultrasound is increasingly being used for cosmetic purposes. A special ultrasound machine can be employed to send energy deep beneath the skin, where it liquifies underlying fat cells without harming tissue or nerve cells. The liquified fat is then expelled naturally by the body--or at least that's what proponents and practitioners of ultrasound therapy claim.

7. One other word: Liposuction.

Liposuction is more invasive than ultrasound therapy by itself. It can also be combined with ultrasound. As you probably know, liposuction involves making one or more small incisions in the skin, inserting tiny "vacuum hoses" and suctioning out the fat. It works particularly well on double chins and jowls, and can be used to "deflate" fat cheeks, too.

8. Two words: Cosmetic surgery.

Celebs do it. Average people do it. For some, results are stupendous. For a few, they're a nightmare. Botched jobs do happen. And in any case, facelifts and similar cosmetic procedures are expensive.

This article on ways to lose fat from the face wouldn't have been complete without mentioning ultrasound, liposuction and cosmetic surgery. I deliberately did not go into detail about them.

If you are considering having any costly or invasive procedure to reduce facial fat (or for any other purpose), you need to do your own due diligence. Talk to people who've had the same procedure. Research it through the Internet. Get your doctor's opinion, advice and perhaps a referral. Learn about costs, side effects, recovery time and possible complications. Most importantly, gain a realistic understanding of what the procedure can and cannot do for your appearance. That way you'll avoid disappointment.

Weight Loss Secrets

Survey a group of people who are overweight on why they failed and you will learn one of two things:

Either a/ They were not able to stick to a program or b/ they did lose weight but gained it back.

These two problems are faced universally by almost everyone who attempts to lose weight. Interestingly enough, both of these problems are related to human behavior more than diet or exercise programs.

The problem lies in the fact that individuals are expected to follow some fad diet and include an exercise program. This is contrary to a lifetime of ingrained habits.

In order to solve this problem it is necessary to create a complete lifestyle shift, or to create new habits. The best method for eliminating bad or old habits is to make new ones.

Everyone knows how to lose weight. The answer is to eat sensibly and to exercise. The truth is that most people don't know how to do this.

The reason for this is simple. No matter how much they diet or how motivated they are, most people don't know the secrets to losing weight and keeping it off. So, what are these secrets?

Here are some of the secrets to losing weight and keep it off.

The very first thing is to prioritize. When you set this as a goal, it should be in the forefront of your mind. Everything that you do should contribute to your goal. By the way, weight loss and improved health should be the benefits of your goal, not the goal itself. Your goal should be an improved lifestyle and new habits.

Incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. Muscle burns more calories around the clock. By getting in shape it will be easier to lose weight and to keep it off.

Fad diets will not allow you to keep the weight off. A healthy lifestyle will not only allow you to lose weight without obsessing about it, but it will keep the weight off forever.

Be sensible about what you eat. Keep your kitchen well grounded. It should contain only the foods that support your lifestyle. If you want to eat something else, go out to a restaurant and have a nice meal. If you don't diet then you don't have to cheat.

Realizing and defining the problem is half the battle. Look at the foods that you eat everyday that contribute both to your weight and health problems. Processed foods, foods with too much salt or sugar not only contribute to excess weight, they make us lethargic and moody.

There is that new advice about eating more and smaller meals. Rubbish. You will never give your digestive system a break. What you require is three, healthy meals per day. Chewing well will help you absorb more nutrition from your food and enable you to be satisfied with less.

Follow what is quickly becoming universal, the 80/20 rule. If you are careful about what you consume 80% of the time, the other 20% will be less of a problem.

Remember, losing weight and improving your health is not about dieting and going to the gym. Essentially it is your present lifestyle that got you where you are now. Transform your lifestyle and your weight loss will be effortless and the weight will stay off forever.

The Easiest Way to Lose Five Pounds After The Holidays

I don't know about you but I'm glad the holidays are over. I don't think I can eat a single thing more and none of my pants fit the way they did just a few weeks ago. It may have something to do with the fact that we put on anywhere from 1 to 5 pounds during the holidays. Kinda makes you look back and regret going for seconds at all those holiday parties, huh?

Well, the holidays are now over and it's time to lose those extra pounds you put on. It isn't going to be easy but it won't be too difficult either. The thing is there really aren't any surefire ways to lose those few extra pounds and it definitely won't be overnight. There are, however, a few minor changes you can make to your daily routine which can speed up the process. Here are a few:

  • You'll want some exercise. A great way to get some without realizing it is through just walking a little more than you normally would. One great way to do this is next time you go to work or shopping, park further away than you normally would. Walking through that parking lot can burn off at least 35 extra calories as well as increasing your metabolism which is important for weight loss. Pumping up your heart rate from walking also curbs your appetite and make you less likely to overeat later on.
  • Holiday get-togethers have a tendency to last long in to night. This leads to hitting the snooze button a few times the next morning and in turn causing you to skip your early morning workout. If this the case, skip the elevator in your building and take the stairs. If your workplace doesn't have stairs, on your lunch go for a quick walk around the block once or twice. You want to do something to get the heart rate up as well as your metabolism increased to burn those calories.
  • Water is one of the best things you can put into your body. You should drink as much water as you can throughout the day. One way to do this is by carrying around a bottle of water with you Just one glass of water can flush out harmful toxins from your body. Now imagine what eight glasses of water can do for your overall health.
  • Be picky about what types of food you eat. Just because there were a bunch of different foods being passed around that company holiday party, doesn't mean you needed to sample them all. Going into a party, you should have an idea about what kind of food will be served. Be prepared with a plan on what you'll try. Go with the shrimp cocktail over the fried pizza bites or the guacamole dip and not the chips ranch dip. These foods still have more calories than you want but they're at least healthier ones than most.
  • Our choices of food healthy for us are extremely limited outside of our own homes which is why a great breakfast is so important. Fill up with a protein packed breakfast and drink plenty of orange juice for a kick of vitamin C.

How to Lose Weight

The healthiest way towards weight loss is neither the bursts of exercise nor the crash diets. In terms of exercise and food, the body likes to have slow changes.

For instance, if you have not exercised for years, you need not rush to run miles a day or pound the treadmill. This will not only leave you disheartened and unmotivated, there is more likelihood that you may injure yourself. This can set your fitness levels even further. The same applies for those, who begin to starve themselves suddenly.

Hence, in order to lose weight, you need more than ordinary steps.

Disadvantages of Excess Weight Gain:

Obesity has many disadvantages. Heart disease is the main risk that obese people suffer from. Secondly, they are more prone to stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure. Based on a recent research carried out in America, obese people are more likely to die prematurely as compared to their healthier counterparts.

Hence, it is important for obese people to remain aware of their conditions and change their lifestyle and diet as early as possible to lose weight.

*Simple Steps to Lose Weight:

Below mentioned are some simple tools that can help you to lose weight:-

1. The best food by which you can lose weight is salads. They have gained much popularity amongst dieters who want to lose their weight fast. If you feel that your salad is bland, do not add cream or sauce to improve the taste of your food.

2. You can also eat baked potatoes in your breakfast. It is a good food and helps you to lose weight.

3. Always remain careful with what you add. Do not neutralize the weight loss benefits of food, when you select the best amongst them.

4. Always eat a high quality food with your snack or meal.

Follow these steps and you are sure to lose weight.

Weight Loss Tips For Beginners - How To Eat To Lose Weight

Obviously you are a person who wants to lose weight and you are looking for information on how do you have to eat to lose weight. It is impossible to answer to this question, because there are simply to many ways how you can eat if you want to lose weight, but everything is based on the same thing. In this article I will discuss the main principles of eating if you want to lose weight.

Basically there's a big misunderstanding in todays society about weight loss. People think that if they want to lose weight, they will have do through the "hardcore way". Media is filled with images of size zero celebrities and a lot of people think that celebrities represent the real side of weight loss. Well, it is not how it is and if you want to lose weight you can easily do that without damaging your body.

Good diet is very important in weight loss and it seems that most of us think that if we will cut the calories - will lose weight... Well, calories are important, but there are a lot of other very important things you have to know before you start to lose weight. First of all I want to inform you, that if you want to lose weight, you should first of all reduce the calories intake at least by 900 calories per day. Lets say you were used to consume 3000 calories per day, so if you want to lose weight, you should consume about 2100 calories per day.

It is proven by scientists that a person can burn about 9000 calories per week and by doing so, it is possible to lose about one kilogram, but scientists don't recommend to do this, because the human body can't cope with big, radical changes in the diet. You should aim to lose about half of kilogram per week and by doing so, you won't harm your body. Enough sad about calories, now lets learn about other very important thing you have to know about weight loss diet.

A lot of people don't understand how they should actually eat if they want to lose weight and what foods are important. If you are losing weight, you have to make sure that you have got a lot of proteins in your diet. At least 1.5 grams per every kilogram of body mass. If you don't have enough proteins in your body, you will lose your muscle mass and trust me - no one wants to do that.

I don't want to say that things like carbs aren't important. I am not saying that, but I think and I know that calories and proteins are probably the most important things in weight loss diet.

Weight Loss in Ten Minutes

Weight loss does not happen quickly for most people, but there is a critical point that becomes so motivating, success seems to be effortless and permanent.

This success has nothing to do with the latest supplement touted on infomercials. They may be helpful but they are not the reason people lose weight. New fangled gym equipment is not the secret either, although exercise is important and a convenient workout allows people to stick to a fitness routine. Pre-made diet meals are useful when pressed for time, but they are not the only ingredient in successful weight loss.

There is a critical point when someone truly desires to commit to a new health plan. For many people who have been overweight for years, being in shape is a long lost memory rather than a reality. The thought of beginning the challenge seems impossible. Over weight issues are so commonplace the underlying message is that it is the norm. When everything is super-sized the temptation is hard to refuse. Modern day diseases that are life-style related are now treated with maintenance drugs that ironically make it more difficult to lose weight. It is as if our culture is trying not to let us reach that critical point to welcome better health in our lives.

When people lose weight successfully and quickly there are two common denominators. They reach a point where they realize they were much too comfortable with their excuses and then they chose a manageable eating plan that did not leave them feeling deprived. Discovering these realizations helps people get past the indecision that prevents them from succeeding.

Of course, losing weight must be done in a safe manner. Although it takes a number of months to achieve weight loss, the benefits are felt immediately. The empowerment of a committed decision is just the beginning. A manageable weight loss plan restores someones energy level so there is a feeling of thin even if the scale doesnt reveal the goal weight yet.

Being able to replace an old mind set of impossibility with accomplishment is the greatest weight loss there is. If you can lose the weight of failure, the actual weight loss is easy.

Weight Loss And Aerobics

There are great benefits to aerobic workouts in your weight loss program. For instance, one of the best things you can accomplish to improve your health and to lose weight is to increase your heart rate. You can achieve this with an aerobic workout which requires constant movement without rest. In order for this to be truly effective, you need sustained movement to get your heart rate up for a length of time. One of the benefits to this is that it oxygenates your blood. This in turn enables you to feel better, stronger and more focused.

Of course this type of workout increases the strength of your heart and your lungs. Aerobic exercise also makes your muscles stronger from working them for increased periods of time. Regardless of which part of the body you are working on, you will continue to get stronger as time goes by. Aerobics alone is not enough. Healthy eating is equally important and compliments your exercise regimen. You should realize that your enthusiasm for weight loss and improved health is complemented by a holistic program that includes both diet and exercise.

The diet most suited for improving your health and losing weight is composed of whole grains, vegetables and fruit. These foods are the ones designed for human consumption. The body has its own incredible ability to cure and regulate itself, but only when provided with the appropriate building materials-natural foods.

One of the most significant aspects of an aerobic program is the way it enables your body to burn fat. Other benefits include increased energy levels, reduced stress, improved mental outlook, increased heart and lung efficiency. A regular aerobics routine will also help reduce blood pressure, improve the heart's resting rate and reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack. Weight loss is, to some degree, created by a calorie deficit. That is, by burning more calories than you consume. By undertaking activities that burn calories, you help your body lose those unwanted pounds.

As an example, half an hour of low paced jogging will burn approximately 300 calories. This makes an important contribution towards your weight loss program.

It is not necessary to join to get an aerobic workout. There are numerous exercises that you can perform in and around your home. There are an ever increasing types of affordable home fitness products. You can use steps, skipping rope and rebounders. NASA considers rebounding to be the most efficient and effective form of exercise. You also might consider the dance mats that can be used with game consoles.

However, the best exercise (when the weather permits) is outdoor exercise. Walking is perhaps the best exercise because it is low impact and available to almost everyone. The secret here is to walk hard and long enough to increase your breathing and your heart rate. Also, running, jogging or riding a bicycle are all great forms of aerobic activity. It is recommended that your exercise regimen consists of 3 to 5 times per week and for between 30 and 60 minutes. The essential point is that your heart and lungs are worked hard enough to enjoy the benefits of aerobic activity (but no so long that you hurt yourself).

Keep in mind that is important to start your program slowly. If you have been inactive for a while, don't try a long run. If a half hour of exercise feels like too much, try starting out with 10 minute sessions. The following week you can try to increase your time to 15 minutes. A lot of us consider exercise to be either difficult or inconvenient. The truth is that working out can be a great deal of fun with wonderful benefits. It is an important habit to develop and one that will provide positive benefits for years to come.

Weight Loss Myth or Fact

Many people are still incredulous about the reported weight loss through sauna use. However, the increased popularity of saunas all over the world cannot and does not lie. Studies have shown that frequent sauna use does indeed help in weight loss as the high temperature acts not only on the muscle tissue but also on the fatty tissues of the body.

Many people agree that saunas have indeed helped them with weight reduction. The question is how? It is not true that the heat of the sauna helps in melting fat. Saunas - natural or infrared - are unable to melt fat with the help of heat. What a sauna actually does is help the body get rid of its excess salt through sweating.

What does salt have to do with weight loss? Plenty there are many medical reports which explain the connection of salt and gain of weight. This gain is not fat gain but water retention gain. When a person consumes excess salt, this is deposited under the skin and in order for it to stay non-toxic it will demand water. The more salt you collect under the skin, the more water your body will demand and retain.

The sauna helps you get rid of this extra salt and thereby gets you rid of the water weight that you have gained. If you want to maintain the weight loss you enjoy from visiting the sauna, you need to keep salt consumption to a minimum in your diet.

Hence, the sauna does indeed help you loose weight though not in the regular way of melting fat. The heat usually forces the body sweat out the excess salt and toxins and thereby reduced a great deal of your water weight. Combined with a healthy and salt free (or reduced salt) diet, you could enjoy the new found way of staying trim and healthy.

Those who have studied the effectiveness of saunas for weight loss have observed that side by side with the relaxation benefits of saunas, they do help with detoxification of the body and with weight loss, when used frequently. What could be a better combination? One takes a sauna for relaxation and relief from stress and ends up with weight loss and body detoxification.

Improve your health and experience the benefits of an Infrared sauna. Saunafin offers a great selection of saunas that will fit your space and home decor.

Online Diet Generator

The online diet generator at the Idiot Proof Fat Loss website allows you to generate a customized meal plan that you will be following for eleven consecutive days. The way it works is that you will be presented with a list of foods from each of the four food groups, from which you must choose a certain amount.

Your food selections will be grouped together into forty-four meals, in sets of four meals per day over the course of the eleven-day diet period called for by the Idiot Proof Fat Loss diet. You will not have any control over this grouping. You must eat the meals as they are formulated. However, you do have the flexibility to arrange the four meals of any given day, in any order that you choose, for that day only.

The Idiot Proof Fat Loss diet allows you to eat as much as you want of each food at each meal, until you are satisfied but not too full. However, you must leave a gap of at least a minimum of two and a half to three hours between each meal.

The online diet generator is programmed to take your food selections and group them together according to the rules governing the Idiot Proof Fat Loss diet. The Idiot Proof Fat Loss diet is based on the science of calorie-shifting. The principle behind the calorie-shifting diet is that the choice of what foods you eat when can trigger a metabolic response that releases fat burning hormones in your body that will induce the accelerated burning of fat.

You can access the online diet generator here at: http://www.CalorieShiftingDiet.info

Weight Loss Is Simple Math, Right?

There is much debate in the world of calories these days. The simplistic approach of just reducing caloric intake in order to lose weight has become scrutinized. Not necessarily because it's wrong, but because there's more to the story. Or is there? Let's take a look and see.

It has long been held that creating a caloric deficit, either by consuming fewer calories or by burning off more calories, is all that is needed in order to reduce weight. Simple math.

Calories In - Calories Out = Caloric Deficit/Surplus = Weight Loss/Gain

Take in more calories than you burn off...gain weight. Burn more calories that you consume...lose weight. In other words, regardless of what you eat, so long as you consume less calories than you burn off you will lose weight. Simple, right?

Yes, and that's the problem. Let me explain. Given that a gram of protein and a gram of carbohydrate both contain 4 calories, you would assume that consuming 50 grams of each would have the same effect on the body. After all, both would constitute a 200 calorie intake (btw, calories per gram of any given nutrient are averages and will vary from food source to food source...therefore, 2 grams of fat taken from two different food sources may actually have caloric discrepancies, even though fat in general is given a caloric content of 9 calories per gram). However, this is not the case. Data suggests that the thermic effect of nutrients will vary, with protein having the highest metabolic cost of the three macronutrients (protein the highest, then carbohydrate, then fat).

Therefore, simple math will tell you that if it takes more energy to metabolize 200 calories of protein than it does to metabolize 200 calories of carbohydrates, consuming 200 calories of each can't possibly be equal in terms of the effects it will have on weight loss efforts. In other words, simple math will tell you it's not simple math. Even within nutrients, there are differences in metabolic cost. For instance, fiber will have a higher metabolic cost than simple sugars.

So what is the message behind all of this? Counting calories is not good enough when it comes to achieving optimal weight loss. The composition of your meals will have an impact, and metabolic cost is one mechanism by which this will occur. Other factors that determine how you respond to the composition of your meals include hormonal responses, health status, and exercise habits...among others.

So while calories consumed is important, if you're not losing weight by simply cutting calories you need to consider other options. Taking a close look at the composition of your meals would be the ideal place to start.

Easy Weight Loss With These 6 Principles

These are a few basic principles to weight loss any one can use right away. The only thing keeping you from applying them is the ability to decide if you will apply them. Make the decision to apply these principles and you will lose weight. If applying all of them is too overwhelming than pick one principle and implement right away. If your having a hard time choosing, I would start with eating a protein dense breakfast. Do this for a week than implement the next principle, and you will have formed positive eating habits which will lead to weight loss.

Here are the principles below;

Right after you wake:

Fill your plate with high quality protein, slow digesting carbohydrates, and healthy fats.

Every 2.5-3 hours after Breakfast:

Waiting more than 4-5 hours between meals causes you're your blood sugar to bottom out, leaving you weak, irritable and tired. The solution: frequent meals. Eating ore often helps regulate blood sugar levels, protecting your muscles from being broken down and used as energy.

How to eat:

Eat more protein rich foods because 30% of its calories are burned during digestion, compared with 8% of carbohydrates, and 2% of fats.

High Quality Protein; eggs, egg whites, fish, lean beef, turkey, chicken, low-fat milk, low-fat cheese, and plain-low fat yogurt are a few great examples.

Slow Digesting Carbohydrates; oats, onions, tomatoes, beans, green vegetables, berries, oranges, and apples are a few great examples.

Healthy Fats; olive oils, canola oil, fish oil, flaxseeds, nuts, sunflower seeds, olives, and avocados are a few great examples.

Consideration:

Carbohydrates; the fast-digesting kind-breads, pasta, rice, potatoes, baked goods, and candy-raise blood sugar quickly. This signals your body to stop burning and start storing fat, and forces it to use the excess sugar for energy instead (this is okay though before, during and after you workouts when your body is far more equipped to handle fast digesting sugars). High-sugar carbohydrates aren't always bad. In fact sometimes they're the smartest foods you can eat. The secret is timing. When you consume these sugars is very important to your goals.

After you workout: Fast-digesting carbohydrates are more desirable than the slow-digesting type. That's because an intense workout changes your body's priorities. As sugar is absorbed into your blood stream, it's preferentially shuttled to your muscles-instead of being used as fuel-and is stored there for later use. The kicker is that this forces your body to accelerate the rate at which it burns fat for energy.

When to consume simple carbohydrates:

Immediately after you finish exercising, ideally this should be a liquid meal, which speeds up the absorption of protein and carbohydrates to your blood stream. 1 hour after the post-workout shake is ideal for eating a solid meal with fast absorbing carbohydrates. Even better, combine fast and slow-acting carbohydrates with protein by choosing a lean meat and a green vegetable to go along with pasta, rice, or a potato. Once you've eaten this meal all the meals here after should be from slow-digesting carbohydrates.

Weight Loss in Children

What is too young to begin a weight loss program with children? Is there actually such a thing? There are many different opinions on the topic of child obesity but one thing everyone can agree on is that it is becoming an epidemic in North America. Many reports show that obesity now kills more people in a year than smoking does.

So whose fault is it? I dont think there is any one area of blame but a combination of many. The fast paced lives that we lead have created more of a demand for quick meals whether they are pre packages or fast foods. The consumption of junk food is at an all time high with more and more variety that are all very attractive to our kids. Parents often think they are doing something nice for their kids when they give in to the demands of I have to have that when they see the constant advertising of attractive and yummy treats on television. Lack of exercise, face it many kids to day are just plain lazy. So is a weight loss program the answer for overweight and obese kids? My answer is definitely yes. If however you ask me is the answer to put these kids on a dietmy answer is definitely NO!

So what is the difference? Weigh loss means changing the way your child eats in a very positive way. Tell them to eat more fruits and vegetables because they are healthy for them. Keeping the junk food out of the house is the best way to make sure they are not eating it. I dont mean that an occasional treat is not ok but the key word here is occasional. Watch their fat intake. Pre packaged foods and fast foods are very high in fat especially Trans fats which are very dangerous. More and more companies have realized this danger and are offering Trans fat free foods. Get your child involved in physical activities. Today our childrens lives often revolve around television, video games and computers. The common negative denominator here is that they all involve just sitting. These are all excellent ways to help our children with their weight.

There is a big difference between healthy weight loss and a diet. A diet is something negative that makes children feel focused on their size rather than their health. Diet does not mean healthy it means getting thin any way possible, which is exactly the opposite of what we want our kids to believe. What you teach your kids when they are young about eating habits is the seed you plant for their future and giving our children good health is in my opinion our responsibility.

Set Point Weight Loss Strategies

You may not know this, but your body has a weight where it's comfortable at. This is called it's "set point". Say you lose weight but gain it right back. That's your body's set point at work. Sure you lowered your weight, but you didn't lower your body's set point... the weight it's comfortable at.

Since your body wasn't comfortable at your new weight, it basically made life hard enough for you to slip up and help persuade you to regain that weight so it could feel comfortable again. So understand that in order to lose weight permanently over the long term, you also need to pay attention to your body's set point. I'll get to that shortly.

Usually as a person ages, their set points gradually increase as well. This leads to weight gain. Now, your set point isn't a fixed weight. It changes both up and down depending mostly on your recent diet efforts and your recent exercise efforts.

I will leave diet to another discussion. But there is just 1 main exercise that beats all others when it comes to lowering your body's set point and helping you to maintain any weight loss. That exercise is walking.

Yep. Boring. I know.

However, if you're losing weight or lost weight and you don't want to gain it back, then you better start walking consistently. I mean dedicated walks. Don't even try to say you walk a lot around the house or throughout the day. Unless you're a mail carrier, I doubt you walk enough.

Ideally, and studies have proven this, you should take at least 10,000 steps in a day in order to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Most Americans take less than 4,000 steps each day. Pathetic.

Think of walking like this. You have 1,440 minutes in a day. If you can't spare 30 minutes of that to walk for your health, then you need to take a look in the mirror. That 30 minutes represents only 2% of your time each day.

Everyone is busy these days. We can all use that excuse. But it's just that, an excuse. You're health is the most important thing that you have. So don't treat it as the least important thing in your day.

Let me put this to you in terms of dollars. If you were to walk for just 30 minutes a day for at least 5 days every week, you'll probably end up saving over $2,000 a year in health related costs. Maybe not this year, but definitely in future years. It adds up. So invest in yourself now! Consider walking like a retirement account. Now get walking.

Weight Loss Myths - Are You A Believer?

There is no field of science that is so full of myths as that of weight loss. Everyone tries to look for the easy way out and lose weight in a quick and safe manner. The reality of the situation is that weight loss requires a lot of will power, dedication and long time commitment. However, there are certain myths regarding weight loss that need to be exposed.

1) The most commonly heard myth is that eating ice cream actually causes weight loss. This so called theory is based on the assumption that since ice cream is cold, the body uses energy (measured in calories) to warm it up so we are actually consuming energy while eating it.

Though it is true that any action in the body requires energy, but by consuming ice cream that is so rich in fat and sugar the body actually takes in far more calories than what is used up to warm and digest it. Therefore, one must eat sweets in moderation.

The myth might even extend to drinking ice water. In this case at least its not harmful because ice water doesn't contain any calories. However, the energy that is used to warm it to our body temperature is actually negligible in terms of weight loss effect. One advantage is that by drinking water the body feels full and so we feel less hungry. It's also much lower in calories as compared to sugar laden sodas and orange juice.

Another myth you might have heard is that adding a pound of muscle makes the body burn an extra 50 calories. Not only is this untrue it is also meaningless. A pound of new muscle will at most burn only a dozen calories while just sitting consumes up to 70 calories per hour. The body consumes energy to maintain internal temperature, circulate and pump blood, repair worn out cells etc.

The concept of adding muscle is a good idea especially because in order to do so we participate in some form of vigorous exercise such as running or weight training. Mild exercise like walking helps to tone the body rather than build muscle. On an average one burns up to 350 calories in an hour long workout.

With vigorous exercise the body burns about 250 calories more than if one hasn't exercised in a day. Even if we alternate our days between working out and walking it will help keep our muscles well toned and prevent the build up of lactic acid that leads to sore muscles.

The truth is that if we consume more calories than we are able to burn, the remaining energy is stored in the form of chemical bonds in fatty tissues. When the body requires extra energy it will turn to those fat deposits in order to get the needed energy and this is what leads to weight loss and fat reduction.

Thus, a well balanced diet and age appropriate exercise are the only real means to reducing weight and keeping fit.

Weight Loss with Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbs can be used to influence the bodys metabolism in different ways. Most people who need to lose weight would like to have their metabolism run more efficiently. There are a number of herbs that can help people in their quest for a healthier, more efficient metabolism in order to ensure that any efforts to lose weight are blessed with success. There are three types of herbs that can assist people trying to lose weight. The first type of herb is the type that transforms phlegm in Chinese medicine terminology. These herbs can help the body to process fats more efficiently and prevent the accumulation of unhealthy fats and fluids in the body. Some herbs in this class that may assist weight loss include citrus aurantium, immature citrus peel, and magnolia bark. Glechoma and hawthorn berry can also help by transforming phlegm.

Citrus Aurantium contains synephrine, which has been shown to have fat-burning properties in research done at McGill University in Montreal. It improves the thermogenesis of brown fatty tissue in the body, which is generally the fat that is the most difficult to burn off. Citrus Aurantium does not have any negative impact on the nervous system like ephedra does. Speaking of ephedra, I do not recommend its use for dieting. Chinese medicine has traditionally used it for severe and acute conditions, such as asthma attacks. It is not intended to be used as a dieting tool or to get a high. These uses can leave a person ultimately more fatigued and adrenal-depleted in the end. Citrus Aurantium is an infinitely safer option for those interested in weight loss.

Other herbs that can help boost metabolic function are herbs that increase the qi and yang energy of the body. This class of herbs includes ginseng, astragalus, and atractylodes. Other herbs in this category include ginger, cinnamon, epimedium and eucommia bark. These herbs can also give a person an energy boost. This can encourage the person to remain consistent with his or her exercise routine. These herbs also encourage healthy digestion and generally make a persons metabolism run faster and more efficiently. This group of herbs can be particularly helpful for those people whose weight tends to accumulate around the abdomen.

Detoxifying, bitter herbs are another class of herbs that can assist with weight loss. These herbs tend to reduce inflammatory, acidic conditions in the body that often trigger the cravings people have for inordinate quantities of unhealthy food. These herbs are particularly useful in people who tend to have voracious appetites for spicy, oily, and sweet foods. They also may have a tendency towards acne or oily skin, and a slightly reddish, or ruddy complexion. These herbs include Chinese rhubarb, coptis, and scute.

Other herbs can be used to control and balance out the emotional conditions that trigger overeating. People who find themselves eating out of stress, sadness, depression, anxiety, or PMS can find that these herbs balance out their emotional life and reduce their cravings for food. These herbs include magnolia bark, bupleurum root, mint, zizyphus and biota seeds, and longan fruit.

Other supplements that can assist in a healthy weight loss program are kelp, apple cider vinegar, vitamin B6, and flaxseed oil. Drinking green tea regularly can also be quite helpful.

It is important to remember that all of these supplements are beneficial for promoting weight loss because they promote a healthy metabolism, a healthy energy level, a healthy digestion, and a healthy mental attitude, but that dietary and lifestyle changes are crucial in order to see the results that you want. Nevertheless, Chinese Medicine can be a great ally in the quest to shed pounds more efficiently.

High-Speed Blenders And Weight Loss

Designer smoothie bars are almost as common as coffee shops these days. It's little wonder too. Where else can you get a healthy snack that contains so many nutrients all in one glass? The answer is: at home. With a high speed blender, it's easy to re-create those fancy, nutrition filled fruit smoothies at home. Chances are, you'll save a lot of money too.

In addition to paying much less, there are several compelling reasons for making your own smoothies with a high speed blender. Consider the following benefits:

* You can give your dieting efforts a healthy boost. Mixing fruits, vegetables, yogurt, soy milk, or other ingredients in a high-speed blender releases the vitamins, minerals, and fibers which they contain. This allows for much quicker processing by the body. The result is a fuller feeling in a shorter time, meaning you are less likely to overeat. It also means more of those nutrients are able to be absorbed by your body. Plus, you have control over the amount of fat and sugar that goes into your recipe.

* It's easier to get your RDA. It can be tough to eat your RDA (recommended daily allowance) of fruits, vegetables, and other nutrients. Using a high speed mixer makes it simple to get many of your nutrients all in one tasty go. A smoothie is also much easier to consume on the run than a handful of blueberries. Plus, you can add boosters like wheat-grass, flaxseed, bran, wheat germ, protein powder, ginseng, and many other nutritional supplements.

* Good nutrition is linked to better mental health. If you are struggling with obesity, you may also be experiencing symptoms of depression. Depression has been linked to being overweight. Doctors encourage people who are seeking treatment for mood disorders to eat a healthy, balanced diet. This is because physicians know that good nutrition can help improve mood by restoring chemical balance to the brain. What better natural depression treatment than a home-made smoothie? There are few easier ways to increase ones intake of fruits and vegetables, plus healthy staples like yogurt, milk, soy milk, and fresh cheese, than to mix them in a delicious smoothie.

* You can experiment with your own ingredients. Whatever fruits and vegetables you like can be combined for a tailor-made snack or meal. You can choose from either fresh or frozen. Fresh fruits and vegetables tend to be slightly higher in vitamins. However, frozen are also healthy, and will add a hearty texture to your concoction.

Sometimes people get discouraged with their efforts to make smoothies at home. Often this is because they are using an ordinary food processor rather than a high speed blender. While food processors may do an adequate job of mixing, they are not made for pureeing and grinding as blenders are. The results from blenders are more appetizing. They also tend to release the vitamins and minerals more quickly.

So forget about those expensive juice bars. Creating your own delicious masterpieces at home may lead to better mental health and put you on the fast-track to weight loss.

Thomas Fox researches fast speed high performance blenders in respect to weight loss and depression and if there is one, what the relationship is between food, allergies, asthma, depression, obesity, stop-smoking and workplace productivity. Fastest Way To Lose Weight

All the time I see people asking "What's The Fastest Way To Lose Weight?". And to be honest this is no simple answer, because it all depends on how much effort you put it. I think the answer to the question is; sticking to a plan. The most important thing about losing weight these days is having a consistant plan that we follow each and every day, if you don't follow a plan you're not going to lose weight, it's as simple as that.

Now at this point you're probably asking yourself "What's the best plan to follow?". And to put it simple, the best plan to follow is one that you can commit to every single day. But if you want to lose weight fast, your going to have to dedicate alot of time to a plan. And there is no slacking, if you slack you will fail to lose weight fast. I promise you that if you stick a consistant plan you will lose weight!

The Fastest Way To Lose Weight: A Consistant Plan

Here is a small but very effective plan for you to follow; Exercise, burn more calories than you eat, it really is as simple as that, or is it?... It sounds straight forward, but is actually very difficult and over 80% of people who are trying to lose weight fail to follow through on this very plan. Right, you need to dedicate an hour a day for exercising at least, more would be better and would speed up the process in how fast you lose weight, but an hour a day is fine. It doesn't matter what exercise you do, just as long as you don't try an spot reduce. General exercise is fine.
