One doctor called it the "Fast Way to Health." Another called it "starvation diet."

It is very easy to lose weight by fasting. Unhealthy, and in the end counterproductive, but easy. You starve yourself, you lose weight. But, you should know what happens when you do this first.

When you starve yourself (which is what fasting is), you inhibit your body's ability to burn fat. You need to remember that calories are simply a unit of energy, and your body needs energy every day to survive. So, when you don't eat, about 300,000 years of evolutionary drive kick in and your body goes into starvation survival mode. It sets of a chain of processes all designed to slow down your metabolism (the rate at which you burn calories) because your body always wants calories in to be equal or greater than calories out. So your brain starts sending signals to your thyroid to slow things down.

Then, you need to understand that body fat is your body's long term energy survival source. So, wanting to survive as long as possible, your body will do whatever it can to hold onto body fat. This is obviously not what you want, but it's what happens.

Your major organs (brain, heart, etc) can't use stored fat for the energy they need, they can only use glucose, which is what carbs break down into thru digestion. Since you are starving yourself and not supplying your brain with glucose, your body has another survival trick. It creates its own glucose.

Unfortunately, it does that by breaking down muscle mass into the component amino acids that make up muscle protein. It then converts these amino acids into glucose to feed your brain, since you apparently won't do it with food. So now you are losing muscle mass.

Since muscle is the engine where your body burns fat for energy, you now have less of it, and burn fewer calories all day. This is another way your body slows down your metabolism to survive.

Eventually, you can't keep starving yourself, so you start eating again. Unfortunately, you've cratered your metabolism so when you start eating, you gain any weight you lost back very quickly. The bad thing now is the fact that while some of the weight you lost was fat, a lot of it was muscle mass and water. When you gain it back, it all comes back as fat.

Will you lose your 17 lbs? I don't know. But, what I do know is that the weight you will lose will be a combination of fat, muscle, and water. And whatever weight you lose, you will gain back quickly, all in the form of ugly fat.

So in the end, your starvation diet will make you fatter than when you started. This is the definition of yo-yo dieting.

Always consult a doctor before doing a diet. This is a comedy on dieting but I'm also dieting and having fun with it. My goal is to be a size 6 but for now size 8 by Easter. Highest weight 167. My Lowest weight 115. I will add on later to this post on reasons why I gained weight.
Okay here goes: Cakes, cookies even gops of creme in coffee all good all sweet all satisfying. Perhaps it's the sweetness. Perhaps Having a real evil deceiptful appearing to be sweet person in my life caused this. There are things that bother a person and it carries on even after the events. Every once in awhile there is something to remind you of it and to appease that deceipt you go for something sweet. Explain this one for me. Awhile back I had gotten a job as a art teacher. This sweet deceiptful person that I call Rightgeous Rita knew of a position and she also thought my daughter being there would benefit. It was the most creative summer jobever. I was able to follow along a book with plans and also incorporate my own ideas. I loved the Christian Church. there was a piano there and after camp was over I played a little. My daughter looked up to me. How cool was it to have a mother who was an art teacher. I taught children up to 5th grade. Rightgeous Rita was very close to the supervisor. Chummy of chummies. When the summer was over a teacher's aid position was open. I was in consideration and after all the hell I had gone to.. raising my daughter as a single mother and relocating...this was a window of opportunity to going back and being in my field. Rightgeous Rita was concerned that I was the right candidate. I wasn't a member of the church and not a Christian and would I say prayers in the morning with the class? I had before and prior to all the BS I was actually going to commit to the church. I thought everyone there was good. Alas I saw the evil. Rightgeous Rita got the job and she also made sure my child knew I didn't get the job because I wasn't a Christian. Rightgeous Rita didn't need the money. I know this because Rightgeous Rita is my stepmother.
I ended up getting a job as a waitress making 2.13 an hour. My whole perception of reality changed and if I smoked a few duppees and drank an extra rajun cajun at the time don't blame me....I was dealing with this deception. I don't do drugs now but for a short period those dupees gave me the giggles. I don't advocate drugs. they make you paranoid although my paranoia was legit with this woman and duppes make you lose your memory and for a short time that betrayal was forgotten. From time to time this woman worked to undermine my parental authority. Two years ago she did something that literally killed my soul, my heart and all I ever worked for. It nearly destroyed me and I still cry aboutwhat she did to me. I lost custody of my daughter because of it. I didn't have a lawyer to defend myself. I had to defend myself. The whole thing started because my daughter and I had a big fight over her cleaning her room and doing the dishes at night. All teenagers are rebellious but Rightgeous Rita took this opportunity to alienate my daughter from me. My daughter even quoted in her deposition that I was a slacker and since I was a stay at home mother Rightgeous Rita and everyone supporting her custody change said... that was my job to clean her room and do the dishes. What ever happened to doing your load of the work? You make the mess you clean up the mess? Everyone share's in the load? Remember I couldn't afford a lawyer. I was denied a lawyer and I wasn't prepared. 14 years of volunteering in school, helping her in her homework, taking her back and forth to school paying for dance classes, paying for karate working crazy jobs to make ends meet. It's as if I had never existed. Worst of all the custody fight happened when hurricane Wilma hit us in Florida. Using humour helps but there is a serious side of me too. One day I pray to God my daughter will see through her deception but she looks up to her like a role model instead of her mother...me So if I ate for comfort I was comforting my soul. I was figurately crucified and my sin was love and teaching my child responsibility.
Enough said for now except this...when I first had my daughter and moved down here
Jesus told Rightgeous rita she should adopt my daughter. I had gotten a college degree, worked in my field. I just needed
to financially recover. I didn't have a car at the time. I was still going through the hormonal changes after having a baby. She never forgave me for not allowing this adoption. I paid for it years to come and no matter how hard I tried to be the best mom she did everything to better me. Like I said her last blow nearly killed me. But as you can see I'm coming back. Although I'm not a "Christian" I believe in God and one day I will find him and I hope someday He'll set things right.

Using Calories For Weight Loss

Ever wondered what a calorie is? The definition of a calorie is "the amount of energy, or heat it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water to1 degree Celsius."

A calorie is a unit of energy that is associated with food and drink and is a measure of the energy, or heat, that food produces as your body uses it as fuel.

The first step in counting calories for your personal weight loss is to calculate how many calories you burn in a day (your total daily energy expenditure), this is the total number of calories that your body expends in 24 hours, including all activities.

This is known as your maintenance level and will be the reference point (number of calories) from which to start your dieting.

The average calorie maintenance level for women in the United States is approx 2000 per day and the average for men is approx 2500 per day. These are only basic averages and are usually much higher for athletes or active individuals.

A quick and easy method to find out how many calories you require per day for weight loss and maintenance is to calculate a calorie value with a multiplier as set out below.

Fat loss = multiply your bodyweight in pounds with 12 calories (12 x lb).

Maintenance = multiply your bodyweight in pounds with 15 calories (15 x lb).

This is a very easy method to estimate your daily caloric requirements, but it has its drawbacks as it doesn't take into account your particular activity levels or body fat levels. Despite this it will give you a good estimated figure that you can work with.

The maintenance figure that you get is the amount of calories that you need to consume to stay at your current weight. To lose weight your calorie intake must be lower than the calories you burn.

Becoming more conscious of counting calories in your everyday eating regime is imperative if you are trying to lose weight. Studies have shown that men and women "underestimate" their daily calorie consumption by 500 to almost 1000 calories.

You can get a truer picture by keeping a seven-day eating plan of what you typically eat and drink during the day.

At the end of each days eating, add up the total amount of calories consumed and write them down on to the eating plan. At the end of the seven days, add the total calories for the whole week and then divide by seven, you now have your daily calorie intake.

Yo-Yo Dieting - Are You in Need of a Weight Loss Change?

It's the stereotypical phrase that describes millions of Americans today. The Yo-Yo Dieter is the dieter that starts and stops every diet under the sun in hopes of one day finding the "perfect" diet to shed all their weight away. Many people unfortunately don't realize the impact yo-yo dieting has on your body and how important it is to find a solid and sound weight loss plan to get you to a healthier weight.

The key to finding the one plan that will work for you is a little bit of research and determination once you find one that's working. The research phase includes finding a reputable diet to follow that has proven results that you are sure you can make work for you. This should include knowing about all the possible side effects you may possibly come into contact with when starting a new plan. For instance, when low carb dieters start the Atkins diet, many find it extremely difficult to adjust for the first week or so, then realize it becomes much easier. Another aspect you must think about is how you will maintain the weigh loss after it's been melted away. Can you follow a low carbohydrate diet the rest of your life without going insane? I'm sure not everyone can answer that question favorably. This is why it's very important to start and follow a plan you know you can make into a lifestyle.

The other aspect is the determination factor it takes to stick to a weight loss plan when it shows no signs of working. When your dialed in and doing everything right, yet no weight is dropping or it's not dropping as fast as it should, many people quit. This is a key period in which determination must prevail to keep going towards the final goal. Everyones body is different and will experience changes in it's own time. You must stay determined to succeed in weight loss, as without this important attribute you will find yourself a chronic yo-yo dieter for life. Good luck!
