I'm sure you already know that weight loss and improved fitness don't happen overnight. But did you know that there are steps that you can take to improve your chances of weight loss success before you even start your healthier eating and exercise plan?

There are five distinct stages of behavioral change. Knowing what stage you are at now will help you to create a road map which will help you to achieve your future weight loss and improved fitness goals.

Here are the five major phases:

Stage 1 - Pre-contemplation:

This is the point where you don't feel that any change in your lifestyle is necessary. You may be thinking that exercising just takes too much time or that fast food is just too convenient to even consider giving up. Starting a fitness or healthier eating program during this stage would probably result in failure. The best thing you can do during this phase is to reassess your life goals and educate yourself further about health, diseases and risks.

Stage 2 - Contemplation:

During this stage you may start thinking that a change is necessary.

What stage are you in right now?

So, now can you identify what stage you are at? You may find that you are in the pre-contemplation stage for nutritional habits but that you are in the preparation stage for exercises. That's okay. The key to success is first identifying your stage and then taking steps to advance to the next level (unless, of course, you are already at the Maintenance stage). Use the suggestions mentioned above in each stage to help you move to the next phase.

It's also important to tune-in to your fears, past struggles and expectations. Making nutritional and exercise changes is not easy and should be approached slowly. Remember to make small changes. Two of the things you really need to avoid if you want to lose weight are fast food and artificial flavors. Unfortunately, most people still keep consuming them. So let's look at exactly why they are so damaging...

1. Fast Food

No Whoppers, No Big Macs, No NOTHING. These foods are stuffed with hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors, saturated fats, and sugars... this is poison central. Don't eat it! It makes you tired, fat and sick. These foods are engineered to make you want more and feel lousy.

Don't eat quasi-fast food either. These include chains like Chili's, Olive Garden, Perkin's and the hundreds of others along our major thoroughfares and interstate exits. They get their foods from some of the same sources that the easily identifiable fast food joints use. It's the same stuff, just a little prettier and more expensive.

If you travel or are on the road a lot, pack a bunch of fresh fruit and vegetables (mini carrots, celery, etc.) so you can snack while you're driving. If you absolutely want some carbs, buy a bag of veggie chips or something to crunch on. Also, bring a ton of water so you can stay hydrated and awake.

2. "Artificial Flavors"

Artificial Flavors are chemicals that are put in our foods to add flavor to food products that are so over processed that they no longer have any taste at all. It's disgusting and we're buying into it every time we go to the supermarket. Most artificial additives are made from derivatives of crude oil that are chemically altered to produce a synthetic substance.

You can see why this might be a health concern. This is not food. There are health effects associated with artificial additives and flavors and what's worse is that they are added most to the foods that already have had their nutrients stripped from them by artificial pesticides and fertilizers. Here are some to watch out for.

Artificial Colors (listed on labels as F D & C colors, or as a specific color such as Yellow #5): These are made from coal-tar and have been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals. Yum.

BHA and BHT: These are also made from coal-tar and have been linked to hyperactive behavior in children. They are on the FDA's GRAS list (Generally Recognized As Safe).

EDTA (ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid): This synthetic chemical is made from minerals, is irritating to the skin and can cause allergic reactions. It also can cause kidney damage. Funny thing is, even though it's on the FDA list for further study, it's still in our food.

Nitrates and Nitrites: Nitrates and Nitrites are made from mineral salts. These are known to cause cancer in animals. They are added to most pork, especially processed meats, as well as some other meat, poultry, fish, and cheese.

Sulfites (sulfur dioxide, sodium sulfite, sodium and potassium bisulfite, sodium and potassium metabisulfite): These are made from sulfur and mineral salts. They can cause severe allergic reactions, including breathing difficulties, gastrointestinal disorders, unconsciousness, hives, and anaphylactic shock. Found in many processed foods and almost always in wine and beer.

One insidious trick the food industry uses to get around putting all these artificial ingredients on the label is this: they'll put an ingredient in a processed food, list it on the package, and then never break down the individual ingredients in that specific ingredient.

Here's an example: Ham included in processed foods, for instance, will contain nitrates and nitrites, and the shortening used may contain BHA and BHT, but only "ham" or "shortening" will appear on the product label.

You don't have to lift 100 lb weights either; starting with 5 lbs weights will definitely help you to see results quickly. You should try to make it to the gym at least 2-3 times a week.

The last key to losing weight is eating in moderation. So make sure that you proportion out your meals. The key is to make sure that you are eating to survive not living to eat. If you used to eat 2 cheeseburgers then only eat one.

So those are my keys to losing weight I would suggest that you stay focused and make sure that everyday your drinking water, exercising, and eating in moderation. If you stay true to this philosophy you will start shedding off the weight in no time.

This is a great way to break out of a plateau and to stimulate new results in your body. But abdominal exercises by themselves won't make you lose belly fat. A healthy effort in your diet is essential.

  • Never skip breakfast! When you sleep, your metabolism slows down, and there is nothing like a healthy bowl of fibrous cereal and a fruit or two, to get your metabolism purring like a happy lion. Eating plenty of fibrous foods also helps aid digestion.

  • Eat at least four meals a day, and yes, snack in between - once again, keeping your metabolism active is one of the best things that you can concentrate on.

  • Drink plenty of fluids, especially water.

Although I love to go to the gym, I don't always have the time to. I usually have to do my stomach exercises, along with my cardiovascular workout, at home. Alcohol and Fat Loss

"Can I drink Alcohol while I'm trying to lose weight?"

or

"How much Alcohol is it OK to drink while I'm trying to lose weight?"

This is a common question that many people have when trying to lose weight.

And in many cases we want to "have our cake and eat it too."

Right?

I mean, there is really nothing wrong with that but when you're trying to make progress it's important that you recognize the facts when it comes to how alcohol effects your fat loss efforts.

Now here's the bottom line: one or two drinks a couple of nights a week is not going to stop you from making progress.

But if you are very serious about making progress I would ask you to consider why you even want to partake in that.

For example, if I was coaching you personally and you came to me and said that you want to make maximum progress in minimum time then I would suggest you limit drinking to once a week. (or zero if you can manage that.)

Here's why:

1) Alcohol is loaded with empty calories. These are carbohydrates that are ultimately going to turn into fat.

You might see some advertisement for some "ultra-light" beers with only 99 calories. Well, that's still 99 calories!

Drink 2 or 3 and you just put 200-300 empty calories in your body.

2) Alcohol sparks your appetite and makes you crave the foods you shouldn't be eating.

OK, let's say you decide to have a glass of wine with dinner. On paper this is no big deal. But in REALITY what actually happens?

First of all this makes you hungrier and you may begin to have serious cravings for foods you shouldn't be eating like processed carbohydrates (pasta, french fries) Personally, when I consume alcohol I crave fast food. Come to think of it, I crave anything!

3) Alcohol DESTROYS your momentum.

This is really the worst part. If you want to breakthrough a fat loss plateau then momentum is absolutely critical. If you want to stop yourself from ever getting momentum then by all means drink regularly.

Let's be honest: what normally happens when you drink Alcohol and end up overeating?

Do you feel on track the next day? Personally, I've noticed the effects last through the next day. So the point is to see the total outcome that drinking will have.

Now keep in mind that I'm writing this article to help you lose maximum fat in minimum time. Once you achieve your goals then you can figure out "what you can get away with." As far as I'm concerned there's nothing wrong with that.

For the time being try this: one night a week drink as much as you want. One drink, 3 drinks, five drinks, whatever (as long as your safe).

So if you drink on a Saturday night then you can simply relax on Sunday and it might even be a great time to give yourself some leeway in your diet. Enjoy yourself Saturday night and most of the day Sunday.

If this sounds too "extreme" for you and you can't go without drinking most nights that's fine, you can still make progress but you want come anywhere close to the progress you could make.

Ask yourself, "How much do I really want to lose fat?" "How much do I want to drink every night of the week"

The answers could be very telling.

Workout C:

Just the same as above, this time you will run for around 90 seconds at a reduce effort of 70 percent. Then after you have done this, do not stop and continue running for around 180 seconds but at a reduce effort of 30 percent. This has the least repetition. Just do 2 to 4 times will be enough.
